Wenger's Sanchez mistake

20.10: Ian Wright insists Arsene Wenger made a mistake by dropping Alexis Sanchez for Arsenal’s game with Liverpool last season.

Sanchez’s future at Arsenal is uncertain with just 12 months on his contract.

Manchester City and PSG have been linked with a move for the winger but Wenger is remaining firm in his stance and wants to keep him.

But Wright thinks the problems surfaced after Wenger dropped Sanchez back in March.

“The problem Arsene Wenger’s had is the Liverpool game,” Wright told Sky Sports.

“He dropped him. Now if you’re going to drop him leave him at home. He didn’t do that and by doing that he’s handed the power to Sanchez simply because he still took him.

“Arsenal played poorly. The only time they looked like they were going to do something was when Sanchez came on.

“The fans were singing for him, he came on and did brilliantly and then all of a sudden the power was with him.”

Ox could go - Solhekol

17.10: Alexis Sanchez is set to stay at Arsenal but the Gunners could still lose midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in this transfer window to a Premier League rival.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol said today: “Arsenal are refusing to let Sanchez go, Arsene Wenger says the decision has been made, he’s staying.

“So it looks like Sanchez is staying, what about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain?

“Arsenal don’t want to sell but Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City are all interested.”

Lemar update...

16.25: Thomas Lemar left Monaco’s training very upset yesterday after an argument broke out between Fabinho and Kylian Mbappe.

The Monaco star is Arsenal’s number one target this summer following the signing of Alexandre Lacazette.

And they may be given persuasion to make another bid after it emerged Lemar left training distraught and didn’t sign any autographs as he left yesterday.

Fabinho and Mbappe are said to have clashed with Fabinho then leaving the session and kicking away a ball.

And Lemar is now reported to have also been frustrated with the argument.

“Clash between Fabinho and Mbappé at the training yesterday,” MunegUK tweeted.

“Lemar was very upset as well and left the training facilities without signing any autographs”

Rafa’s move

16.00: Rafa Benitez has revealed he’s tried to hold talks with Arsene Wenger in a bid to sign Lucas Perez from Arsenal.

It emerged Perez was a target for Benitez yesterday when he claimed to be a fan of the player.

And today he went a step further by revealing an informal discussion with Wenger.

He said: “I was talking with Arsene yesterday at the managers’ meeting and I said ‘listen we have to talk’ and he said ‘if you have some money, let me know’.

Arsene Wenger hopes Alexis Sanchez will stay at Arsenal this summer

Previously Benitez has spoken openly about the striker who looks set to leave Arsenal this summer after having his number nine taken off and handed to new signing Alexandre Lacazette.

"I like the player because I have good friends in A Coruña,” he said.

“I know that he did really well. He’s come here and not played in many games, but I like the player.”

Alexis Sanchez update

15.30: Arsene Wenger doesn’t expect PSG to be in touch with a bid for Alexis Sanchez.

Sanchez’s future remains uncertain with his contract up next season and Manchester City determined to sign him.

Sanchez has now been ruled out for the beginning of the season, sparking rumours a move away could be close.

And Wenger has now denied PSG have made a bid for him.

Asked if he expected Al-Khelaifi to get in touch, Wenger replied: "No, no. I think if you read the French papers, they are on Mbappe's case to finish their transfer market."

Ospina stays

15.15: Arsene Wenger says he has convinced David Ospina to stay at the club this summer despite interest in him.

The Colombia international was heavily linked with a move to Turkey but he will vie with Petr Cech for the No.1 spot next season.

Wenger said: "It was not easy to convince Ospina to stay, but he will play games and fight with Petr Cech to start.

"And anyway, we play other competitions. He wants to play in a World Cup year."
