Chelsea free to land Valencia ace Joao Cancelo: Tottenham refusing to meet £25m fee

CHELSEA have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Joao Cancelo as Tottenham won't compete with them over his fee.

Valencia's João Cancelo is dubbed the new Philipp Lahm

The Blues recently joined London and title rivals Spurs in the race for the Valencia star.

Antonio Conte identified the Portugal international as a player to offer competition for Victor Moses at right-wing back.

But Tottenham have also been looking to replace Kyle Walker following his £50million switch to Manchester City.

However, according to the Mirror, Spurs are not prepared to invest half that fee in buying Cancelo.

It is said Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is unwilling to meet the 23-year-old's £25m asking price.

And reports have suggested Chelsea are on the verge of completing a deal too.

Should they secure a deal for Cancelo, he would become the club's second defensive acquisition of the summer, joining Antonio Rudiger in west London.

Cancelo is tied down until 2021 at Valencia but could well be attracted to the Premier League champions, with Chelsea able to afford his price-tag.
