Real Madrid shelve interest in Man Utd and Chelsea goalkeepers De Gea and Courtois

REAL MADRID have reportedly given up on signing David de Gea or Thibaut Courtois, putting their faith once more in Keylor Navas.

Real Madrid have been linked with a new goalkeeper for a number of years with many questioning the first-team quality of Keylor Navas.

The La Liga champions have been eyeing Manchester United No 1 David de Gea and Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois as a replacement for the Costa Rica international.

However, Real have reportedly shelved plans for the Premier League duo and will instead put their faith in Navas for one more season.

Spanish outlet Don Balon claim club president Florentino Perez has full trust in the 30-year-old shot-stopper.

The report says both De Gea and Courtois are beyond Real’s reach and there are no other options on the Spanish club’s shortlist.

Zinedine Zidane has also been an advocate for keeping Navas, as have the rest of the Real team who fully trust the Costa Rican between the sticks.

And he issued a heartfelt thank you message to Zidane and his team-mates in June for helping him through some difficult moments at the club.

"I began the season injured, then it was difficult to recover," Navas said.

"I wanted it to be easy, but it wasn't like that. Now I feel much more strengthened on a footballing and spiritual level.

"I owe thanks to Zidane, and one way to repay him is to play as well as possible so that his decisions are backed up.

“Everyone likes that someone supports them when you are in a difficult moment, even more your team-mates who are there day to day.

“Seeing that they never doubt you is something that motivates you."
