Gary Neville slams Sead Kolasinac: I have no idea what Arsenal star was doing

SEAD KOLASINAC may have become an instant hero with Arsenal fans after scoring in the Community Shield win over Chelsea last weekend, but Gary Neville was less than impressed with the Bosnian’s defending last night.

Sead Kolasinac's brilliant assist for Theo Walcott goal

Kolasinac, a free transfer from Schalke, played as the left-side centre back in a makeshift defence for Arsenal’s Premier League opener against Leicester.

Naturally a full-back, manager Arsene Wenger was forced to play his new man out of position, with Laurent Koscielny (suspension), Shkodran Mustafi (fitness), Per Mertesacker and Gabriel (both injured) all unavailable.

It was his role in Leicester’s opening goal which confused Manchester United legend Neville while working on the game as a pundit.

Kolasinac was marking goalscorer Shinji Okazaki at the back post but drifted away from the Japan international and he had a relatively straightforward header past goalkeeper Petr Cech, whose positioning was also under the spotlight.

“Leicester take a short one, credit to them, and they just take Arsenal unawares with no authority at the back,” Neville said on Sky Sports.

“(Harry) Maguire does really well to guide it across and Okazaki beats (Granit) Xhaka in the air.

“But I have to say, the new centre-back Kolasinac, it’s so irresponsible what he does.

Gary Neville was not impressed with Sead Kolasinac's role in Leicester's first goal

“He’s there at that back post, he drifts forward. I have no idea what he is doing.

“I have no idea, he just leaves a massive void for the rest of his team to cover and they can’t cover it. It’s poor from him.”

Arsenal went on to win the game 4-3 despite Leicester leading 3-2 with less than 10 minutes to go.

Goals from substitutes Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud stole all three points for Wenger's side.
