David de Gea was one of Real Madrid's top targets but the club have given up

The Spanish international has been a target for Real since 2015 and they were expected to make a move to sign him before the end of the month.

But De Gea has pledged his future to the United for this season at least and says that he has got no intention of returning to the Spanish capital.

The 26 year-old would have been a Real player by now if a proposed move two years hadn’t fallen through over a broken fax machine.

De Gea in his six years at Old Trafford has developed into one of the best goalkeepers in the world is a player that Real are desperate to sign.

Real president Florentino Perez is however unlikely to end his interest in De Gea despite his latest attempt to do a deal end in failure.

And he is likely to renew his interest in signing him in 12 months time when United are hoping to lure Gareth Bale to Old Trafford.

Perez could insist that De Gea who is rated at around £60 million is thrown into any package to lure Bale away from Real.
