Antonio Conte needs two more signings at Chelsea to avoid Jose Mourinho season - Carragher

JAMIE CARRAGHER reckons Chelsea need two more signings this summer in order to retain their Premier League title.

Chelsea have already spent in excess of £135million on new recruits, with Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Antonio Rudiger and Willy Caballero arriving at Stamford Bridge.

But the Blues have got off to a terrible start this term, losing the Community Shield to Arsenal last week and falling to a 3-2 defeat to Burnley on their Premier League opener.

And Carragher believes Conte needs to add at least two more players to his squad this summer, namely wing-backs.

"They've got two games between now and the transfer window shutting," Carragher said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

"Antonio Conte needs to get two players in - they need strengthening, especially in the wing-back positions.

"They need to stop this tidal wave of negativity. The way Conte is speaking to the press you know something isn't right. That's got to stop."

Carragher has urged Chelsea to stay calm ahead of their next match against Tottenham to avoid a repeat of their disastrous 2015/16 title defence under Jose Mourinho.

"Chelsea need to do the exact opposite of panicking," Carragher added.

"A couple of seasons ago when they drew with Swansea on the opening day and they had the incident with the club doctor, all of sudden it felt like Chelsea were under pressure.

"I felt like people were fanning the flames. The story was getting bigger and bigger until Jose Mourinho eventually lost his job.

"They've lost one game at home - they should be thinking now 'relax'.

"They've got to remember it's only one defeat and they've got to get their heads back on. As Conte has said, they don't want another Jose season."
