United title claim

Jose Mourinho's pedigree of always winning the title in his second season at every club he has been at makes Manchester United one of the favourites for the title.

That's according to former Middlesbrough and Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer who has been impressed with the signings of Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic.

“Man United for me are one of the favourites to win the league,” Schwarzer told Sky Sports.

“The acquisitions over the summer have been excellent.

“Jose Mourinho, in his second year, is always successful wherever he is.”

Real Madrid make £46m De Gea bid

22:40: Real Madrid have renewed their interest in Manchester United keeper David De Gea.

The Sun claim the La Liga champions have lodged a £46million bid for his services after ending their interest in Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe.

Zinedine Zidane has apparently made the decision to end the chase for the France international following the impressive form of Marco Asensio.

However, Real want to make another Galatico-style signing, and De Gea fits the bill.

Shaw gets the boot

19.00: Manchester United are considering selling Luke Shaw to fund a deal for a new defender, according to reports.

The Daily Record claim United want rid of Shaw to make room for a Champions League-quality left-back.

Speaking about United's transfer business last week, Mourinho admitted his fourth summer signing would "play from the sides", hinting he would be a full-back.

"We got a centre midfielder, we got a striker," he said.

"Obviously [we wanted] a player for another position playing from the sides."

Unsuccessful triple raid

17:45: Manchester United tried to sign Gareth Bale, Neymar AND Antoine Griezmann this summer.

That's according to journalist Duncan Castles.

“Antoine Griezmann he tried to get, Neymar he was involved in trying to persuade to come to Manchester United, he's tried to get Gareth Bale,” he told the The Transfer Window podcast.

“He obviously sees that Man Utd need more of that if he's to make them what he's expected to - contenders for the Champions League.”

Lemar to Man Utd?

15.20: Manchester United are set to muscle in on Arsenal target Thomas Lemar, according to Daily Record.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Monaco star for weeks.

However, the report says the Red Devils are poised to swoop for the France international after missing out on Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo.

United will reportedly have to pay in the region of £55m for the winger.

Victor Valdes retires

13:01: Former Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes has retired.

The 35-year-old, who also played for Barcelona and Middlesbrough, has hung up his gloves in order to start his next venture.

He has launched a TV production company and will have his own show.

Deportivo la Coruna and Sporting Lisbon both offered him deals to continue playing this season.

De Gea 'perfect' for Real Madrid

12:46: Shay Given admits David de Gea would be the perfect replacement for Keylor Navas at Real Madrid.

"I felt this summer he might go," he told Sky Sports.

"I felt that Real Madrid, they alway sign a galactico every summer, and I'm still not sure about the Real Madrid goalkeeper [Keylor Navas].

"I think David de Gea would be the perfect replacement for him.

"I think now, we spoke about Mourinho and the team he's moulded, and I think to put a title challenge on it's important they keep De Gea at the club.

Man Utd have done better than City

11:54: More from United legend Bryan Robson, who believes his former side have enjoyed greater success than rivals Manchester City in the transfer market.

Asked on talkSPORT who has been more successful, Robson said: “Over the last year if you go to last summer and this summer I think definitely Mourinho.

“We were on the backward step and now all I see is we’re going forward in a real good way.

“More or less all of Mourinho’s signings have been good and strengthened us.

“Winning competitions last season gives players confidence. You can see the way they bonded on the tour to America. The lads get on very well together.”

Robson praises signings

11:24: Bryan Robson has praised Jose Mourinho for his summer transfer business.

Manchester United got off to a winning start in their Premier League title challenge with a 4-0 result over West Ham last weekend.

“It is one of those where you don’t get carried away by the one performance,” Robson told talkSPORT.

“But you look at the squad depth and we have got power and pace as well as the quality. Two of the signings have been terrific again to go with the signings we had last tear.

“Lukaku and Matic. Matic was terrific at the weekend. Everyone has said who is going to replace Michael Carrick. It’s great we still have Michael at the club. But to have signed Matic was a masterstroke for me.

“The signings there at the weekend were brilliant. He’s going to be a great player for Manchester United over the next few years and that gives us a real chance.”

Fellaini staying put?

09:24: Marouane Fellaini looks set to stay at Manchester United this summer, according to the bookies.

Fellaini has emerged as a vital player for Jose Mourinho after three shaky campaigns under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.

Reports surfaced this week that Mourinho could lose the Belgian powerhouse though, with Juventus said to be lining up a £22.5million bid for his services.

But bookmakers Betfair reckon the 29-year-old midfielder is staying this summer, having priced United at 3/10 to keep hold of the former Everton star.

While Juventus are at odds of 3/10 to get their man.

Roberto staying at Barca

08:05: Ernesto Valverde has ruled out any chance of Manchester United, or any other club, signing midfielder Sergi Roberto this summer.

he 25-year-old had been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford and is thought to be considering his options.

But Valverde insists he's not for sale and is counting on him this season.

"Of course, I am absolutely counting on him," he said.

“In some games he will be a major player and in some games no, but he remains an important player.”

Transfer window concern

04:15: Manchester United are reportedly worried about plans for the closure of the transfer window before the start of the season.

The current window closes on August 31.

The majority of clubs are expected to back the measure.

And the Daily Telegraph claim United have concerns about the disadvantage they will have in relation to their European rivals.

Danny Rose to Man Utd OFF

02:30: Manchester United have abandoned hopes of signing Tottenham star Danny Rose.

Jose Mourinho has been heavily linked with a move for the England international this summer.

But Express Sport understands Spurs chief Daniel Levy has told United that there is no chances he will be sold this summer.

Mourinho will now pursue other targets.

Rashford Injury

00.10: Marcus Rashford spent the entirety of last season suffering from a back problem.

The Sun claim the England international was struggling with growing pains and, at times, couldn't travel to games on the train.

And Mourinho reportedly had to leave Rashford out of some games because the pain got so bad.

Ronaldo expected Bale move

19:23: Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly thought Gareth Bale would join Manchester United.

The Daily Mail say the Portugal international expected his Real Madrid team-mate to go.

But Bale has now decided to stick it out in Spain for one more year.

United have publicly given up on signing the Wales international but remain keen on making a winger their final summer signing.

Ibrahimovic to coach?

17.25: Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho reportedly wants Zlatan Ibrahimovic to return to the club as a coach.

The Swede is currently in talks with the Old Trafford club about a new deal and The Independent claim Mourinho is keen to extend his stay beyond his playing days.

The report says Mourinho sees Ibrahimovic as a similar figure to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.

And he thinks the Swede can offer the squad experience, while also serving as a bridge between the players and coaching staff.

Sergi Roberto setback

16.45: Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has insisted Manchester United target Sergi Roberto will not be sold this summer.

“Of course, I am absolutely counting on him," Valverde told Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

“In some games he will be a major player and in some games no, but he remains an important player.

"How important, depends on each game during the season."

Jose's content with his squad

14:50: Manchester United supporters won’t like this!

Jose Mourinho is happy to wait until the New Year to make another signing.

Manchester United have splashed out on three players this summer - Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic - in order to strengthen key areas of the squad.

Mourinho is thought to be on the lookout for one more player who can play out wide to provide healthy competition to his current crop of players.

But his pursuit of Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic has stalled, while Gareth Bale looks set to stay at Real Madrid for another season.

And ESPN claim Mourinho is now accepting of the fact he can wait until the January transfer window to continue recruitment.

Mourinho does not want to offload any of his fringe players in order to bring in a fourth arrival.

It is said the Portuguese doesn't want to upset the harmony of his squad by selling at least one member of the team and would rather wait to reassess his options in the winter window.

Spurs favourites for Barkley, but Chelsea aren’t far behind

14:35: Tottenham remain favourites to sign Everton Ross Barkley, according to the bookies.

Ronald Koeman has reiterated that Everton have received NO firm interest in Barkley, but the imminent arrival of Gylfi Sigurdsson could see his departure accelerated.

BetStars Director of Trading Ian Marmion said: “The imminent arrival of Gylfi Sigurdsson at Goodison Park seems to have all but confirmed Ross Barkley’s inevitable exit from his boyhood club this summer and has put a host of clubs on high alert.

“Tottenham have been heavily linked with the 23-year-old playmaker and are now the clear favourites at evens to make Barkley their first signing of the summer.

“However, Spurs face strong competition from their London rivals Chelsea who are desperate to add attacking reinforcements to their ranks before the transfer window shuts and are priced at 3/1 to make a swoop for the Toffees’ midfielder.

“AC Milan, Newcastle and Arsenal are all priced at 10/1 to make a late charge for the England international.”

Perisic doubts

13:50: Manchester United may not land Ivan Perisic before the transfer window shuts.

United have been in for the Inter Milan winger all summer but have been frustrated by the Serie A club in negotiations.

And a well-connected source at Old Trafford has told BBC Sport they doubt whether a deal will be done this summer.

The transfer deadline slams shut at 11pm on August 31.

Perisic’s agent flying in for talks

12:45: Ivan Perisic’s agent Fali Ramadani will arrive in Milan shortly to discuss his client’s future, reports claim.

Italian website Calciomercato suggest Ramadani's meeting will determine whether Perisic extends his deal at the San Siro, or joins United in a £39million deal.

Mourinho has hinted at another marquee signing after publicly saying his squad was “75% complete” and that he wants a player who “can play from the sides.”

Is No.44 shirt being readied for Ivan Perisic?

12:40: Could Manchester United be preparing for the arrival of Ivan Perisic?

The club have this week announced that Andreas Pereira won’t wear the No.44, the one he's previously been allocated, this season. Instead, the Belgian midfielder will take the No.15.

And, in what could be a crucial clue, 44 is the number that Croat international Perisic wears at Inter.

May this be the hint they are keeping the door open to him joining? Or even trying to lure him over with the promise of his preferred number?

Or is it merely a chance for Pereira, who has featured in pre-season and who won’t be sent out on loan, to move up the pecking order?

Miki’s fine on the wing

12:10: Manchester United star Henrikh Mkhitaryan says he would rather occupy the No.10 position, but is happy to play as a winger.

The former Borussia Dortmund playmaker struggled to establish himself under Jose Mourinho last season, but has shown he’s capable of more having provided two assists against Aston Villa on Sunday.

He said: “I prefer to play as a No.10 but if the manager thinks I’m helpful for the team playing on the wings I am happy to play on the wings. It doesn’t matter.

“It was a great win. I think we did a good start to the season. Now we have to keep going the same way.”

Porto star scouted

11:30: Manchester United and Tottenham look set to go head-to-head for the signing of Porto defender Ricardo Pereira.

The Sun report United and Spurs sent scouts to watch the 23-year-old in action in Porto's 1-0 win over Tondela on Sunday.

Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund are also rumoured to be interested in Pereira.

Wenger not entertaining Ox sale

10:45: Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Premier League trio have been linked with a move for the versatile midfielder, who still hasn’t agreed a contract extension beyond June 2018.

But manager Arsene Wenger has reiterated his desire to keep Oxlade-Chamberlain at the Emirates.

He said: “I want him to stay here for a long time. He’s the English player in the next two years that a lot of people look at.”

Martial going nowhere - cousin

10:10: Anthony Martial will remain at Manchester United this summer, his cousin Jemael has confirmed.

Martial, 21, has been heavily linked with a move away from Manchester United with Inter Milan and Tottenham reportedly tabling offers to sign him.

Jose Mourinho has rejected both approaches as he does not want Martial to leave the club.

And his cousin, who is also a journalist, has reiterated this by revealing that he is going nowhere.

The tweet, written in French, read: “For Manchester United, Anthony leaving is not an option, even on loan. They rely on him."

Martial’s cousin has since deleted the tweet from his account.

Zlat wouldn't be acceptable - Nkunku

09:00: Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been warned NOT to join Marseille.

The Swedish striker wad released by United after sustaining a serious knee injury during their successful Europa League campaign.

And Marseille have been mooted as one of a number of possible destinations.

But former PSG teammate Christopher Nkunku has urged Ibra to snub their advances as a show of loyalty to Paris St-Germain.

He said: “Ibrahimovic to OM? I dislike! If he goes there, he betrays Paris.”

United ask about The Ox

08:05: Manchester United and Liverpool have both made enquiries over Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain but Chelsea remain frontrunners to sign him.

The Arsenal winger is yet to agree a new contract at the Gunners with his current deal running until the end of the season.

Arsene Wenger is determined to keep hold of the England international but his uncertain future has led to interest from their Premier League rivals.

And according to the Gambling Times, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool have all approached Arsenal to discuss his availability.

While Liverpool and City have both been linked with a move for Oxlade-Chamberlain in the past, news of United's supposed interest could spark another summer battle between Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

Mourinho has made no secret of his desire to sign another wide player before the transfer window shuts later this month.

However, Chelsea are confident they can see off competition and prise him away from the Emirates.

Perisic boost

06.00: Manchester United could still sign Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan, but time is running out.

That's according to Italian outlet Calciomercato who claim Inter would still be willing to consider selling Perisic if United met their £48million valuation.

Perisic is reportedly close to signing a new deal with the Serie A club but was understood to be keen on a move to Old Trafford earlier in the summer.

Pogba on Neymar

05.00: Paul Pogba is happy Neymar has taken his tag as the world's most expensive footballer.

The France international was under the spotlight last season in his first year back at Old Trafford after leaving Juventus for £89million.

But Neymar's £198million move to Paris Saint-Germain last month blew his record out of the water.

And Pogba is looking forward to critics focusing more on his performances as opposed to his price-tag this coming season.

"Last season, the first question from everyone was always all about the price tag. Now everyone is asking about the football. That tells you everything.

"I am always confident. I always give my best and now it is my second season. I know more about the Premier League and I adapt more with the team."

Nemanja Matic would be great for Liverpool, says Steven Gerrard

22:30: Steven Gerrard would have taken Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic at Liverpool after the Serbian left Chelsea this summer.

"Looking at them at the weekend, Matic," Gerrard said ahead of Liverpool's Champions League qualifier against Hoffenheim.

"We haven't got a natural, sitting holding midfielder at the moment.

"Jordan Henderson has done a fantastic job in there at times last season, obviously struggled with injury at times, and we've got Emre Can as well.

"But for me they are suited as well to be number 8s that can get into the box.

"I think that all those players, [Gini] Wijnaldum, Henderson and Can would benefit from having a real big monster of a central midfielder in there who can break up play and help Liverpool be a bit more secure when they pile so many numbers forward.

"Obviously I don't want to create any headlines, but I am a huge fan of Matic."

Martial wants Premier League stay

17:40: Manchester United striker Anthony Martial rejected Inter Milan because he wants to stay in the Premier League, according to journalist Tancredi Palmeri.

Tottenham and Serie A giants Inter Milan are both supposedly determined to lure him away from Mourinho's side ahead of the transfer deadline on August 31.

And, in news that will no doubt alert Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs, Palmeri says Martial's preference is to remain in England.

"Martial has for now rejected the option," he said on Twitter referring to Inter Milan.

"Prefer possibly remain in Premier."

Martial was being tipped to join Inter in a move that would see Ivan Perisic join United.

And it emerged in France this week that United had rejected a bid from Tottenham.

But former France international Emmanuel Petit thinks he should fight to remain at Mourinho's side.

"Manchester United, they are building a team to play for the title this year," he said.

Aurier agrees Spurs deal - claims

16:45: Manchester United and Chelsea look set to miss out on Paris Saint-Germain star Serge Aurier, with reports saying the Ivory Coast international has agreed personal terms with Tottenham.

Manchester United and Chelsea have both been linked with moves for Aurier in recent weeks.

But French newspaper L'Equipe say Aurier has now agreed personal terms with Tottenham.

The report adds Juventus and Inter Milan also want him but Spurs appear to be in pole position to snap him up.

Fellaini to Juve

15.40: Juventus have identified Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini as a potential target.

The Sun claim the Italian champions will make a move for the 29-year-old if they fail to sign Blaise Matuidi from Paris Saint-Germain.

United will reportedly part with the Belgium international if a good offer comes their way following the arrival of Nemanja Matic.

Juve are reportedly willing to bid in the region of £22m for the Fellaini.

Perisic chase

15:00: Manchester United have not backed down in their pursuit of Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic and will make a fresh attempt to finally sign him.

The Gambling Times claim the Red Devils are still confident they will reach an agreement.

The report suggests Chelsea and Barcelona's sudden interest has prompted United to ensure a deal is pushed over the line and that they don't miss out on the 28-year-old to their rivals.

Both clubs have made contact with Inter to enquire about Perisic's situation.

Wes Brown done deal

13:20: The former Manchester United defender has completed a move to Indian side Kerala Blasters.

He tweeted: "I Cant wait to play in front of one of the best fans in the world. Kerala, See you soon! #indiansuperleague #newchallenge #excited."

Kerala Blasters are also hoping to sign former Red Devil Dimitar Berbatov.

Turan looking for Barca exit

11:15: Barcelona ace Arda Turan looks set to leave the club and Manchester United are an option.

Spanish publication AS claim Turan's agent Ahmet Bulut is exploring his options and a return to his boyhood club Galatasaray has been mooted.

But Manchester United are also listed as potential suitors with Jose Mourinho a long-term admirer of the 30-year-old.

AS claim Turan has met Mourinho numerous times and the chance to link up this summer is a possibility.

The attacking midfielder's agent also has a close working relationship with Mourinho's representative, Jorge Mendes, with the pair working on deals involving players moving in and out of Turkey in the past.

Roberto eyeing Man Utd or Chelsea

10:15: Sergi Roberto is considering leaving Barcelona with Manchester United and Chelsea both keen to sign him.

Spanish newspaper Sport claim Paulinho's arrival from Guangzhou Evergrande has left Roberto fearing for his place.

He is now set to make a decision on his future this week and Manchester United and Chelsea are both feasible options.

Sport claim United and Chelsea would both be willing to meet his €40million (£36.3m) release clause.

Martial urged to snub Inter

09:30: Anthony Martial should stay and fight for his place at Manchester United and not move to Inter Milan, says Emmanuel Petit.

"Manchester United, they are building a team to play for the title this year," he told SFR Sport.

"They will play the Champions League, he (Martial) will have playing time and the competitions will be long until the end of the year.

"So going to Inter which is under reconstruction, there are a lot of uncertainties at this level there.

"It's a risk to take but I think he has the qualities to claim to play more at Manchester United.

"Whether it is on the left side or even in the centre, he has already shown that he has the instinct of a scorer."
