Man Utd new boy Romelu Lukaku doesn’t get enough credit for his goals - Joleon Lescott

MANCHESTER UNITED new-boy Romelu Lukaku did not get the credit he deserved for his goalscoring exploits at Everton, according to former Toffees defender Joleon Lescott.

Lukaku hails 'dream' Premier League debut for Man Utd

Lukaku joined Manchester United from Everton for a fee of £75million last month.

The Belgian scored on his competitive debut against Real Madrid in the European Super Cup and netted a brace on his Premier League bow for the club in Sunday’s 4-0 win against West Ham.

Lukaku looked nailed on for the Golden Boot last season up until Tottenham’s Harry Kane scored seven goals in his final two games to finish on 29, four more than Lukaku.

Lescott played against the 24-year-old during his time in the Premier League and believes he is the perfect striker for United boss Jose Mourinho’s style of play.

“He’s one of the toughest (to play against),” Lescott said on Sky Sports of the Manchester United star.

“Obviously there is different opinions on him, how he looks on the eye but he is very effective.

"Quick, strong, very good technically as well, which is probably underestimated.

Joleon Lescott says Romelu Lukaku is perfect for Jose Mourinho's style of play at Man Utd

“He scores a lot of goals and I don’t think he gets enough credit he deserves because of the amount of goals he has scored.

“I think they needed someone to effect games when it’s tight, we all know Jose’s teams don’t tend to be free-flowing and attacking.

“So if they need to sit back against the likes of the top teams away from home, when you’ve got someone like Lukaku up front, you’ve always got a chance of scoring goals and stretching the game.”
