Everton finally agreed a fee for the Iceland star late last night and are close to completing the deal worth £45m.

And Koeman said he’d spoken to the doctor and been given the all-clear.

"The latest is that he had his medical this morning," said Koeman.

"What I heard from the doctor was no problem.

"I don't know if still he needs to sign but I saw him in the Blue!

Ronald Koeman on Gylfi Sigurdsson's transfer to Everton

"I will talk to Gylfi this afternoon. He will not be involved tomorrow. Maybe for Monday (against Manchester City). Let's wait and see how the fitness is.

"We worked a long time to get this deal in and he was one of the key players to bring in. We knew would lose [Romelu] Lukaku for this season and we need players who bring productivity to the team.

"He is the type of player with a lot of productivity. In my opinion he is one of the best in the Premier League."

Sigurdsson joins Koeman’s new-look Everton side and will play alongside Wayne Rooney and Sandro in attack.

The Swansea star impressed last season keeping the south Wales side in the Premier League.

Paul Clement relied on him and will see his side become favourites for the drop in his absence unless they’re able to reinvest the money well.

They have rejected two previous bids but had finally decided to accept the latest one after the 2017 missed the opening game of the season and a chunk of pre season.
