Paper round-up: Sanchez may leave, Van Dijk staying put, Manchester United end Rose chase

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that while he does not want to sell contract rebel Alexis Sanchez this summer, he’s powerless to stop the Gunners board from allowing his star man to leave the club.

“It’s my decision, but after the board has to of course agree with me,” he said. “If they don’t agree, we will accept it.”

Elsewhere, Manchester United have abandoned their pursuit of Tottenham defender Danny Rose.

In an explosive interview last week, Rose criticised Tottenham’s wage and transfer policy and admitted he wanted to move back north before the end of his career – sparking interest from Manchester United.

However, the Red Devils have been told by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy there’s no chance Rose will be sold to them this summer.

And Southampton chief Ralph Krueger says wantaway defender Virgil van Dijk will be welcomed back with “open arms” once he accepts he will not be sold this summer despite interest from Chelsea and Liverpool.

“Virgil is not the only player that is involved in this he is part of the whole strategy of not selling. Nobody is for sale that we don't want to sell and so he is not for sale in this window,” Krueger told the Daily Echo.
