Jose Mourinho has spent £130m this summer at Man Utd

Manchester United and Manchester City both changed their managers last summer, and Mourinho and Guardiola have been allowed to spend big on new signings.

City have already forked out over £220million on new recruits this summer, while Mourinho’s three signings have cost the Red Devils £130m.

The Portuguese boss also broke the transfer record last summer when landing Paul Pogba for £89m.

And United legend Robson reckons his former club have the edge over City in the transfer market, despite Guardiola’s mega spending spree this summer.

Asked on talkSPORT who has been more successful, Robson said: “Over the last year if you go to last summer and this summer I think definitely Mourinho.

“We were on the backward step and now all I see is we’re going forward in a real good way.

“More or less all of Mourinho’s signings have been good and strengthened us.

“Winning competitions last season gives players confidence. You can see the way they bonded on the tour to America. The lads get on very well together.”

United won the Europa League, EFL Cup and Community Shield last season.

They will compete again in the Champions League this term and are expected to battle for the title.

They beat West Ham 4-0 last weekend but Robson insists he’s not getting “carried away” on the back of one good result.

“You look at the squad depth and we have got power and pace as well as the quality. Two of the signings have been terrific again to go with the signings we had last tear,” he added on talkSPORT.

“Lukaku and Matic. Matic was terrific at the weekend. Everyone has said who is going to replace Michael Carrick. It’s great we still have Michael at the club. But to have signed Matic was a masterstroke for me.

“The signings there at the weekend were brilliant. He’s going to be a great player for Manchester United over the next few years and that gives us a real chance.”
