Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona: Liverpool are looking at replacements already - Shay Given

LIVERPOOL have a plan in place should they Philippe Coutinho join Barcelona.

Craig Bellamy: Liverpool won't sell Coutinho

That's according to former Premier League goalkeeper Shay Given.

Liverpool are adamant Coutinho won't be sold but Barcelona are not giving up the chase and recent reports suggest they have tabled an offer totalling £118million.

Coutinho is keen on a move away from Anfield and has his heart set on a switch to the Nou Camp and is supposedly prepared to go on strike in a bid to force his exit.

Barca have cash to spend following the £200m sale of Neymar and are in desperate need of someone to replace him after suffering defeat to Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup last night.

And Given feels Liverpool will already be looking at their own replacements for the Brazilian in case he leaves.

"They'll know they may have cause to spend and other clubs will know that as well," Given said on Sky Sports.

"You'd have to think, I'm sure behind the scenes Liverpool recruitment will have a plan B.

"They'll be targeting players and if not in this country, then around Europe, if not the world.

Shay Given feels Liverpool are already looking at replacements for Philippe Coutinho

"He [Klopp] needs someone in to replace him. He needs someone in an attacking sense.

"Obviously we spoke about [Virgil] van Dijk, he needs a centre-half as well but if Coutinho goes they'll definitely need another forward thinking player as well."

Liverpool have already been linked with a move for West Ham's Manuel Lanzini but the Hammers insist he won't be sold and are looking to tie him down to a new long-term deal.
