Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona: Details emerge on rejected £118m bid for Liverpool star

Coutinho, 25, has been heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool after handing in a transfer request. 

The Reds issued a public statement last week to outline their prized asset is not for sale after snubbing a second offer of £90m. 

Jurgen Klopp has also issued a hands-off warning to the Catalan giants. 

But Barcelona continue to persist as they look to find a replacement a replacement for Neymar, who was sold to Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record fee of £200m. 

Ernesto Valverde is determined to build a squad capable of competing with rivals Real Madrid this season, and he has earmarked Coutinho as the man to help them fight for the La Liga title. 

However, The Daily Mirror say their third bid of £118m for the former Inter Milan star is not what it is cracked up to be. 

It is said the true fee is a guaranteed £80m with a string of improbable performance based add-ons making it total £118m. 

These 'never-never payments' require Philippe Coutinho to win multiple trophies in the same season, win multiple Champions League titles, win the Ballon d'Or and win multiple trophies and the Ballon d'Or in the same season. 

It is also said the guaranteed £80m fee will be staggered over five years. 

Liverpool are apparently growing angry with the Spanish side's pursuit of the Brazil international and have demanded that the club make no further contact. 

But Barca will supposedly be unlikely to listen to the Reds and will return with a fresh bid next week. 

The Mirror add Coutinho will also continue to press Liverpool to accept the Nou Camp giants' offer.

However, they will only do business if an approach of around £140m is made. 

Coutinho is likely to miss Liverpool's clash with Crystal Palace at Anfield today (3:00pm) due to a back injury.
