West Ham transfer news: William Carvalho agrees five-year deal to move to Hammers

WILLIAM CARVALHO has agreed a five-year deal to move to West Ham.

William Carvalho shows off brilliant play against Monaco

The Portugal midfielder, 25, is desperate to play in the Premier League and he's given the green light to the long-term contract already.

But the transfer has taken a late turn due to a disagreement over the fee between the Hammers and Sporting Lisbon.

West Ham thought they had agreed a £32million fee with Sporting last week, according to The Sun.

But Sporting threw a spanner in the works by increasing their demands to £36.5m at the last minute.

West Ham transfer news: William Carvalho has agreed personal terms on a deal

West Ham went down 4-0 to Manchester United in their opening game of the season and it's claimed Sporting wanted to try and exploit any desperation the club had to strengthen.

The Hammers have said no but it's left Slaven Bilic frustrated as he targets the midfielder in what would be a club-record move.

It's claimed that West Ham remain confident they will seal the transfer this window but there's currently a stand-off between the two sides.

Also crucial to any deal is Sporting's Champions League qualification.

Sporting play Steaua Bucharest on Wednesday in the second-leg of their qualifier with the tie level at 0-0.

Carvalho is seen by Bilic as the perfect holding player as he tries to get the Hammers firing in a 4-3-3 formation.

Carvalho learnt his trade at the Sporting academy and has been linked with a move to the Premier League for years.

Manchester United and Arsenal have both held an interest in the midfielder, who helped Portugal win at Euro 2016 last year.

He missed the first leg of Sporting’s Champions League qualifier last week - but that was because he was suspended.
