Arsenal transfer news: Oxlade-Chamberlain to reject new deal - Chelsea and Liverpool keen

ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN is unlikely to sign a new Arsenal contract despite being offered around £100,000 a week.

Steve Nicol says no reason for Chamberlain to leave Arsenal

The England winger is entering the final 12 months of his current deal and his future remains uncertain.

He is set for talks with Arsenal this week in which his situation will become clearer.

Chelsea and Liverpool are keen on a move for the 24-year-old and could launch ‘serious bids’ before deadline day, according to the Telegraph and Oxlade-Chamberlain appears to be keen to let his contract run down.

The winger joined Arsenal from Southampton in 2011 but has never been able to nail down a regular place.

He has looked promising in the wing-back role in Arsene Wenger’s new 3-5-2 formation.

But he has previously expressed a desire to play in central midfield.

He is also aware he could earn more money by making a move away from the Emirates, particularly if he moved to Stamford Bridge.

Former Arsenal star Ian Wright admits he may need to leave the Emirates to fulfil his potential.

“I wouldn’t want Oxlade-Chamberlain to leave,” Wright told Sky Sports.

“But if I’m the Ox, then you’ve got to be thinking about it - he’s been there five years now.

“He’s still not got to where he should be.

“We still don’t know what his best position should be.

“He’s a talented player and he’s got to start kicking on in his career.”
