Liverpool transfer news: Sky Sports man delivers Coutinho update that will disappoint fans

BARCELONA are preparing a fourth offer of £138million for Philippe Coutinho.

Joey Barton: I think Liverpool should sell Coutinho

Liverpool flatly turned down a third bid of £119m on Friday but it has since emerged that only £80m was guaranteed.

The rest of the money would have been made up in add-ons, including a payment if Coutinho wins World Player of the Year.

But now Barca have come to the table with a bigger offer for the Brazilian midfielder.

On delivering the update on Sky Sports news this morning, presenter Mike Wedderburn said:  "You Liverpool fans probably thought Barcelona had given up hope of signing Philippe Coutinho. Well, I'm afraid you may be disappointed.

"We understand Barca are prepared to make a fourth offer of up to £138million for him. That would consist of an initial payment of £101m up front with an extra £37m in bonusses.

Liverpool transfer news: Philippe Coutinho is wanted by Barcelona

"A source in Spain has said to us: 'Philippe has never been more determined to leave Liverpool. To suggest Barca are thinking of backing out and calling it a day is nonsense.

"'They are all-in now and their cards are on the table and they will never give up the fight.'

"The £37m add-ons are understood to be very achievable and linked to Champions League appearances."

Liverpool have so far dug in, insisting that Coutinho isn’t for sale – but they are believed to value the playmaker at around £140m.

Coutinho has made no secret of his desire to move to the Nou Camp but only signed a new five-year contract this year.

The playmaker hasn't featured this season with the club now insisting he's ill, after recovering from a bad back.

When Jurgen Klopp was asked if he'd welcome Coutinho back, he said "Of course. You asked is everything okay between us? I answered with of course. Yes, indeed, absolutely, 100 per cent.

"He can't [start training tomorrow] because on top [of the injury] he is now ill. One other player [was also ill] but with him it was not that serious so he was back in training today.

"If [Coutinho] would start [training] tomorrow it would take time because he has no training for a long time. [I have] no idea in this moment. We would have to check in the moment when he is back."
