Liverpool News: Jurgen Klopp should ‘hit’ Alberto Moreno ‘on the head’ - Steve McManaman

LIVERPOOL left-back Alberto Moreno should “be hit on the head” to help improve his game, according to former Reds midfielder Steve McManaman.

Moreno baffles fans with superb performance against Bayern

Moreno has received plenty of criticism for his defensive displays since joining Liverpool from Sevilla in 2014.

He lost his place in the starting XI at the beginning of last season, with midfielder James Milner utilised on the left side of defence.

However, a good pre-season has persuaded Jurgen Klopp to give him another chance and he has started three of Liverpool’s first four games this season.

And McManaman says Klopp must tell Moreno to not attack as much as he does in order to get the best out of the Spaniard.

“He certainly trusts Alberto Moreno,” ex-Real Madrid star McManaman said on BT Sport.

“He’s had a good pre-season and he offers Liverpool a lot more going forward.

“The only thing he has to be careful about is his decision making. We know he’s got great energy, we know he can power forward.

Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp has plenty of faith in Alberto Moreno, says McManaman

“You just feel he doesn’t need to power forward as much as he does and in certain games, like the away game (against Hoffenheim), he got caught out numerous times.

“Sometimes you need to be hit on the head a bit and told ‘just relax, go forward at the right times, don’t go forward every time’.

“I think once he gets that he offers Liverpool a lot.”

Liverpool's next game in the league is against Arsenal at Anfield this Sunday (4pm).
