Liverpool v Hoffenheim: Steve McManaman explains the one criticism of Jurgen Klopp’s side

LIVERPOOL overcame Hoffenheim in their second leg clash at Anfield tonight to reach the Champions League group stages but the performance was not perfect.

Hoffenheim fans storm Liverpool ahead of Champions League clash

That is the view of former Liverpool midfielder and pundit Steve McManaman.

The Reds went into the game 2-1 ahead from the first leg in Germany last Tuesday and came away 4-2 winners tonight.

They stormed into a 3-0 lead inside the first 21 minutes of the first half tonight to all but kill off the game as a contest.

But Hoffenheim were allowed a little sniff, when a Dejan Lovren error gave Mark Uth the chance to pull one back, which he did.

McManaman says they must cut out defensive errors from their game.

“This is the sloppiness about Liverpool,” he said on BT Sport.

“You don’t need to concede chances. Mistake by Lovren, punished by Uth.

“The last thing you wanted to do was to give Hoffenheim anything.

“They could have blitzed them, they were 3-0 up and looked as if they could score more.

“Don’t let Hoffenheim get into the game with silly mistakes, giving them opportunities.

“That’s the only thing you can criticise but it’s a very, very small criticism because Liverpool look like they are going to score more in the second half and let’s hope so.”

Liverpool can make it four wins in a row in all competitions when Arsene Wenger's Arsenal visit Anfield on Sunday.
