Messi posts heartfelt video goodbye to Neymar

Barcelona have been left stuck in a rut following Neymar’s shock £198million departure to Paris Saint-Germain.

In recent days, reports have said Messi could even be about to turn his back on Barcelona.

The 30-year-old wants Galactic names and a guarantee they will rival Real Madrid for the world’s biggest honours - something he has not yet been given.

It has also emerged that the Argentina international is yet to pen a contract extension - despite previous claims to the contrary - meaning he could leave as a free agent in 12 months time.

And The Sun say Messi’s dad is in talks with Manchester City over a move to the Etihad next summer.

Jorge Messi supposedly met City’s director of football Txiki Begiristain and discussed the prospect of his son reuniting with Pep Guardiola in England.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola wants a reunion with Barcelona star Lionel Messi

It is said Messi is stalling on a new Barcelona contract and considering a move to City, who have long harboured hopes of bringing him to the Premier League.

A deal next summer would suit Guardiola’s side given they have already shelled out a huge £213m on the likes of Kyle Walker, Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy this summer.

City would be able to agree a contract with Messi in January before unveiling him six months later should the veteran opt to call time on his Barcelona career.
