MANCHESTER UNITED ace Juan Mata believes his side will get a massive boost upon the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Juan Mata: Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be a big boost

Manchester United announced that re-signed for the Red Devils on Thursday after his contact ran out at the end of last season.

Ibrahimovic signed a one-year deal despite facing the next few months on the sidelines after damaging his knee ligaments.

The Swedish striker scored 28 goals for Manchester United last season, winning the Community Shield, the EFL Cup and the Europa League.

Speaking on Football Focus, Juan Mata explained how much of a boost the club will be given by Ibrahimovic returning to the club.

Manchester United will be given a massive boost by Zlatan Ibrahimovic claims Juan Mata

He said: “You can imagine he is very confident by himself.

“He can give us this confidence that he has and he can be a big boost for us after this first part of the season.

“Hopefully he can join soon and I’m sure he will be very important for us with our objectives to fight for the titles.”

Fears were raised that Ibrahimovic may never play again after he picked up his knee ligament injury, but the 35-year-old has promised to be better than ever when he returns.

“I feel good,” he said. “I have trained every day since I had my knee operated on, there is no vacation.

“It's a new challenge for me obviously but I am strong mentally and when I focus on an objective nothing can stop me.

“It doesn't matter what's in my way I will break everything to reach my goal. When I come back to play football on the field I will be better than before.

“I am not coming back because I am the one I am, I am coming back to be a better version of the old one. Imagine how that will be."

Ibrahimovic may have to play second fiddle to Romelu Lukaku this season after the striker was signed from Everton in a £75m deal and has already scored three goals in his opening two Premier League games.

Manchester United currently sit top of the Premier League after they won both of their opening fixtures against West Ham and Swansea 4-0.

Ibrahimovic is not expected to feature until the second half of the season as he continues his return from injury.
