Liverpool ran riot as Arsenal paid the price for leaving Alexandre Lacazette on the bench.

Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Daniel Sturridge struck to consign Arsenal to a second Premier League defeat in as many games.

And, speaking after the game, Jurgen Klopp lauded his side.

"After midweek games you have to reach the mountain immediately," he said.

"You really feel it is intense, we wanted to force ourselves to be strong physically and that is what we were. We were really well organised.

"If you give Arsenal space and time you lose before the game starts so I don't think they could do a lot of what they wanted, Arsenal, and that is all credit to the boys because they worked really hard."

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson was also full of praise.

"I thought we did very well. Arsenal had periods with the ball but I always felt we were pretty solid and defended well as a team," he said.

"On the break we were devastating. We are delighted with the performance. I felt we controlled the game everywhere, we were brilliant and worked so hard.

"As the games have gone on, we’ve got better and better. The fitness levels have been brilliant and a lot of that is down to pre-season."

Liverpool's season started shakily with a 3-3 draw against Watford.

But two wins from two in the league have given Reds fans hope they can challenge for the title.

Liverpool will be aiming to continue their good form when they face Pep Guardiola's Manchester City on September 9.
