Arsenal news: Mesut Ozil issues apology to Gunners fans after Liverpool drubbing

MESUT OZIL has issued a grovelling apology to Arsenal fans after their abysmal 4-0 defeat to Liverpool yesterday.

Dion Dublin: Arsenal haven't dealt with their serious problems

The Gunners failed to register a single shot on target as Liverpool strolled to an easy three points over their Premier League rivals.

Arsene Wenger described Arsenal’s performance as ‘unacceptable’ as the players came under heavy criticism for their abject performance against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Ozil was one of many players to come under fire from Gary Neville, who was commenting on the game for Sky Sports.

Neville lambasted the Germany international and Aaron Ramsey for a ‘pathetic’ performance and went as far to say they should all be placed on the transfer list.

Mesut Ozil insists Arsenal will improve when they return from the international break

Blame us, shout at us, criticize us

But Ozil has taken the unusual approach of apologising to the Arsenal fans via his social media account before insisting they will come back more determined after the international break.

"Blame us, shout at us, criticize us, but I'm also very disappointed about today's game," Ozil wrote on his Instagram page.

"We wanted to achieve a positive result before the international break but we were simply not good enough during the 90 minutes and Liverpool deserved the win without a doubt.

"Usually I'm too angry to post on social media after such frustrating days like today, but I don't want to let this match go uncommented before traveling to the DFB Team.

"Nevertheless... Gunners, I'm sorry -- especially for the fans who travelled all the way up to Liverpool to see us fighting.

“But we will try everything to improve in the next game and bounce back from the disappointment we are all feeling at the moment."
