FORMER Premier League star David Thompson thinks Dele Alli will leave Tottenham next season - if Ross Barkley signs.

Spurs have been tracking Barkley, 23, for months after he made it known he wasn't going to sign a new Toffees deal.

The England midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and he's available on a free - although Everton would be able to command a compensation sum for developing him.

The transfer window shuts on Thursday at 11pm and Thompson thinks the possible signing of Barkley could have wider repercussions.

The midfielder-turned-pundit tweeted: "If Spurs sign Barkley I'd say bye bye to Dele Ali next season #Spurs."

Dele Alli would rival Ross Barkley for the No.10 shirt at Spurs

Alli, who has previously been lined up by Real Madrid, would likely compete with Barkley for the No.10 role in the Spurs side

After Everton's defeat to Chelsea on Sunday, boss Ronald Koeman revealed that no offers had been lodged for the player.

Asked if there has been any movement, he replied: "No, no. At this moment [he stays] because we don't have any offer on the table for Ross."

Koeman himself, meanwhile, reiterated his desire for new faces before the window shuts.

He said: "We need at least two more players to get numbers in, but the most important thing is to get a striker in.

"If you look at all the squads of the big teams, they have so many options. If we get everybody back, like [Seamus] Coleman, [Morgan] Schneiderlin, [Yannick] Bolasie, [James] McCarthy... if we have them, that's good.

"But we have injuries, which are part of football as well.

"I'm always confident because we did some good business [this summer], but the board knows the importance of the two signings."
