Steven Gerrard backs Liverpool to sign Virgil van Dijk
Southampton defender Van Dijk has been linked with a move to Liverpool throughout the summer.
The Dutchman has submitted an official transfer request at St Mary’s but the club say he will not be sold before the transfer window shuts at 11pm on Thursday.
Winterburn also thinks Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp should look to bring in a new goalkeeper.
Klopp rested Mignolet for the 4-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday and played Loris Karius between the sticks.

As well as Southampton's Van Dijk, Liverpool also want Monaco winger Thomas Lemar and Winterburn expects some movement this week.
“They’re trying to (sign players), aren’t they,” Winterburn said on Sky Sports.
“I think Van Dijk has been linked.
“I looked at Liverpool at the weekend, every compartment was sensational.

“I think what you have to look at and say goalkeeper is still a question.
“Mignolet was in, left him out, needed a rest before an international break, Karius came in.
“Centre-half position. If Liverpool can bring in Van Dijk into that centre-half position, I think they would be looking very, very strong.”
Van Dijk has not played for Southampton since January after suffering a serious ankle injury.
