Liverpool Transfer News: Sell Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona, buy Thomas Lemar - Burley

LIVERPOOL look likely to sell Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona and buy one or two replacements before the transfer window shuts on Thursday, according to pundit Craig Burley.

Coutinho has been linked with a move to Barcelona in the last few weeks, with the Spanish giants seeing three bids rejected.

Liverpool have maintained the Brazilian will not be sold but he remains keen on leaving Anfield this summer.

Burley reckons the pursuit of Monaco’s Thomas Lemar means Coutinho will probably end up moving to Barca.

Liverpool have had two bids turned down for Lemar but have reportedly made a third worth £74.4million plus striker Divock Origi on loan.

These kind of things that might happen for Liverpool are pushing me down the line that they might take this money from Barcelona

Burley says the Frenchman would fill the void of Coutinho and would be a good alternative to Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

“He’s coming off a period with a club that’s had so much success, he would be coming with a positive frame of mind,” Burley said on ESPN FC of Lemar.

“Again it’s leading to the fact that he can play wide.

“If something happens to Mane or Salah, if indeed he wasn’t playing in front of them, and Philippe Coutinho does go, then there’s options there.

“So these kind of things that might happen for Liverpool are pushing me down the line that they might take this money from Barcelona and go and try and strengthen with a couple of players.

“That would make sense to me. Liverpool are going for energy, dynamism, of course talent but one of the keys is young.

“They’re trying to bring players in who will maybe be there between five and 10 years and really push this team forward.”
