Thomas Lemar to Liverpool: Medical team travelling to Monaco ahead of star’s move

LIVERPOOL are edging closer to signing Thomas Lemar with a medical team on their way to Monaco to complete the process.

Craig Burley says Thomas Lemar a good fit for Liverpool

Liverpool are determined to smash their club record transfer fee with an ambitious move for the French midfielder with time running out before the window closes.

Having already offered Monaco €80million (£74.4m) plus Divock Origi on loan the Reds are hopeful the Ligue 1 champions are ready to do business.

Reports today claim Barcelona are also set to begin talks with Monaco over Lemar having failed to so far sign Coutinho.

And with that in mind, Liverpool have moved quickly to try and wrap up a deal.

Thomas Lemar is edging closer to joining Liverpool

Spanish newspaper Marca claim Liverpool have sent a medical team to Monaco to carry out tests on the 21-year-old.

Liverpool received another boost in their pursuit of Lemar yesterday with Monaco making two signings.

The French outfit snapped up Montenegro striker Stevan Jovetic from Inter Milan for around £10m, while winger Keita Balde signed on a five-year deal from Lazio.

Balde's arrival is an indication Monaco are set to now cash in on Lemar and Liverpool looks his most likely destination.

Lemar, who registered 12 goals and 14 assists for Monaco last season, could play anywhere in Klopp’s midfield three with his preference being on the left.

While Jurgen Klopp is hoping to secure Lemar's signature, his impending arrival is not thought to be linked to Coutinho's situation.

The Brazilian is pushing for a move to Barcelona and has already handed in a transfer request.

But Liverpool's stance remains the same: Coutinho is not for sale.
