LIVERPOOL star Philippe Coutinho is not worth the transfer fees being offered for him by Barcelona, according to Reds legend Steve Nicol.

Barcelona have seen three bids turned down by Liverpool for Coutinho in the last month.

Reports yesterday claimed the two clubs had agreed a fee of £148.5million for the Brazilian but that was denied by Liverpool CEO Peter Moore.

Coutinho is desperate to join Barcelona and handed in a transfer request earlier this month in an attempt to force through a move.

However, Liverpool have always maintained they will not sell the player before the transfer window shuts tomorrow at 11pm.

I can’t disagree with you when you say you look at those stats and he’s not exactly a £150million guy

Nicol is confident Philippe Coutinho will stay even if an inflated price has been offered for him from Barca.

“I’m very confident that nothing’s going to happen,” Nicol said on ESPN FC.

“I can’t disagree with you when you say you look at those stats and he’s not exactly a £150million guy.

“But it’s not really about the money or anything else.

Liverpool transfer news: Philippe Coutinho is not worth what Barcelona have offered, says Nicol

“It’s about the Fenway Group making a statement that they want Liverpool to try and get back to where they were many moons ago at the top of the tree.

“They do (need to sign a defender). I’m not going to argue that either.

“But at the same time they’re not letting their best players go.

“That is a statement in itself.”
