Sky Sports pundits in Liverpool transfer row: Le Tissier accuses Carragher of 'tapping up'

SKY SPORTS pundits Matt Le Tissier and Jamie Carragher engaged in a light-hearted Twitter war last night.

Community Shield 2017: Oxlade-Chamberlain scores against Chelsea

It was yesterday revealed Liverpool had completed the £40million signing of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal.

The Ox was due to undergo a medical at England's St George's Park training ground last night with an official announcement expected tomorrow.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has agreed a move to Liverpool because he wants to play in centre-midfield - and that opportunity wouldn't have been forthcoming at Chelesa.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher tweeted: "Tried to persuade AOC to join @LFC when he was a kid, obviously Klopp is more persuasive! Interested how he gets him into CM after Sunday!!"

And that prompted Le Tissier, who has slammed at Liverpool all summer over their chase of Southampton's Virgil van Dijk, to hit straight back.

This obsession with saints has got to stop

The Sky Sports pundit, who is a regular on Gilette Soccer Saturday, retorted to Carragher: "More illegal tapping up."

Le Tissier earlier mocked Liverpool for their chase of the ex-Southampton man.

He said: "This obsession with Saints has got to stop! just take our scouts and save yourself some money!"

"Lord knows what I'm going to have to tweet about when this window ends!!"

Virgil van Dijk has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool throughout the transfer window

Saints ace Van Dijk is desperate to move to Anfield but his transfer was blocked in June when the Saints threatened to report Liverpool for their alleged conduct.

Liverpool subsequently retracted their interest but they've continued to watch the situation closely.

The Dutch international, 26, appears to be pushing for a move elsewhere and has been forced to train with the Under-18s.

But Southampton are determined to keep their prized asset as they want to get rid of their 'selling club' tag.
