Arsenal transfer news: Raheem Sterling could be a makeweight in Man City's deal for Alexis Sanchez

That is the opinion of journalist Duncan Castles.

Sterling was suggested as a possible makeweight in a swap deal involving Manchester City and Arsenal for Alexis Sanchez.

City insist they do not want to lose the England international though, or other players such as Sergio Aguero to Arsenal.

But journalist Castles thinks it may have been Sterling’s representative Aidy Ward that put the winger forward for the move.

“We were told initially that Manchester City had offered Raheem Sterling as part of the deal, but City deny that, say it wasn’t them offering Sterling,” Castles said on The Transfer Window podcast.

“It appears to me, and the agent was definitely involved in the briefing yesterday, that this idea actually came from Sterling’s camp.

“Let’s remember his agent Aidy Ward is a guy who used pretty much the full range of machiavellian agent techniques to get Raheem Sterling out of Liverpool a couple of years back and get him a big salary at Manchester City.

“So I’m wondering whether Arsenal, if they want Raheem Sterling, could manage to get that into the deal because Raheem Sterling when he was about to leave Liverpool there was a lot of talk about him going south to London to be closer to his family.

“There’s potential there to upgrade the salary of the player [at Arsenal].”
