Liverpool transfer news: No 4 shirt is ready for Virgil van Dijk - Micky Quinn

LIVERPOOL fan and former Premier League striker Micky Quinn has pleaded with Southampton to let Virgil van Dijk leave today.

Mick Quinn PLEADS to van Dijk on behalf of Liverpool

Van Dijk has been linked with a move away from Southampton throughout the summer, with Liverpool showing serious interest in the Dutchman.

He has handed in a transfer request at St Mary’s in an attempt to force through an exit but they maintain he will not be sold before the transfer window shuts at 11pm tonight.

But Quinn has not given up on the deal and claims Southampton do not need Van Dijk after two clean sheets in their opening three Premier League games.

He also says the No 4 shirt is ready and available for him to take if he did join.

“A plea on behalf of Liverpool fans to Southampton Football Club,” Quinn said on talkSPORT.

“We’ve had a few dealings in the past. Mr (Mauricio) Pellegrino, you’ve kept two clean sheets this season, you don’t need Virgil van Dijk.

“He’s unhappy, he wants to leave.

“Virgil, if you’re listening, of on your knees son, get them kneepads on and go to the board of directors bang down the door and beg that you want your dream move to Liverpool.
