VIRGIL VAN DIJK has left Southampton's training ground in the back of a blacked out car - and could be on his way to Liverpool.

Mick Quinn PLEADS to van Dijk on behalf of Liverpool

Liverpool have spent the summer chasing Van Dijk but to little avail.

Southampton threatened to report them to the FA for tapping him up earlier in the summer and their interest appeared to have cooled.

However, despite that, Express Sport understands the Dutchman remains a priority Liverpool target as the transfer window draws to a close.

And Sky Sports have said the defender has left Southampton's training ground today - possibly to go to Anfield.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has already completed one piece of business today.

The Reds confirmed this morning they had signed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal for a fee of £35million.

And there also remains talk that Monaco's Thomas Lemar could rock up to Merseyside before the deadline.

Van Dijk is a deal that is likely to happen but there are no guarantees yet.

Liverpool transfer news: Virgil van Dijk could be on his way to Melwood

Southampton have regularly insisted he is not for sale - despite the player handing in a transfer request.

Obviously, the saga earlier in the summer complicated things.

And people at Southampton will likely be reluctant to let another star go to Merseyside after losing Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert and Nathaniel Clyne in recent years.
