Sky Sports pundit Carragher: 'Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool will be breaking news later'

LIVERPOOL legend Jamie Carragher was not amused when he was interrupted on Sky Sports News earlier this afternoon and claimed Virgil van Dijk will complete his long-awaited move to Anfield tonight.

Carragher spoke to the Sky Sports studio from Liverpool, discussing the big deals on transfer deadline day.

However, he was cut off midway through his segment by presenter David Garrido because of some breaking news.

“Jamie we’re just going to interrupt this little chat with you for just a moment,” Garrido said on Sky Sports.

“We’ll come back to you but we have breaking news from Kaveh Solhekol, Kaveh.”

That breaking news was reports that Birmingham were keen on signing Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere on loan.

Fellow presenter Natalie Sawyer attempted to bring Jamie Carragher back into the conversation, asking about the future of Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho.

“Let’s ask you one more question on Liverpool,” Sawyer said.

“That is the future of Mamadou Sakho. There have been three bids turned down by Liverpool, do you expect to see him stay or go today?”

However, Carragher was not having any of it and claimed Wilshere moving to Birmingham is not ‘breaking news’ and instead claimed Virgil van Dijk moving to Liverpool will be breaking news later this evening.

“First of all, cutting me off for Jack Wilshere going to Birmingham on loan as breaking news, that’s not breaking news,” he responded.

Liverpool transfer news: Virgil van Dijk has been linked with the Reds all summer

“Virgil van Dijk going to Liverpool will be breaking news later on tonight.

“So get that one out of the way. So what was that question about Sakho?”

Van Dijk has been a transfer target of Liverpool throughout the summer.

Southampton say they will not sell the star before the window shuts but Carragher has clearly not given up hope.

Van Dijk has made 55 league appearances for Southampton since joining from Celtic in 2015.
