Arsenal transfer news: Alexis Sanchez ‘devastated’ but Manchester City plot January loan

ALEXIS SANCHEZ is said to be “devastated" by the failure of his transfer to Manchester City.

Simon Jordan: Alexis Sanchez will leave Arsenal but in right way

Sanchez saw his move to Man City collapse after Arsenal agreed to sell him for around £55million but were unable to sign a replacement in time.

Arsenal wanted Thomas Lemar and were prepared to pay £92m for the Monaco star, however they pulled out late this afternoon.

It means Sanchez will remain at Arsenal at least until January when he can then sign a pre-contract agreement to join another club next summer.

According to the Daily Mirror, Sanchez is devastated to not be joining City having told his Chile team-mates that the deal would be done.

A City source is quoted as saying: “It was Ivan Gazidis who made the first move this morning – calling Ferran to tell him that the second offer was acceptable.

“It came with the proviso that Arsenal had to sign a replacement. But Gazidis indicated that was close to happening.

“It now seems that Arsenal didn't have an agreement with either a club or a player.

“It's disappointing but we hope that the strong relationships we built with Alexis and his advisers will help us in the future.”

And the report says City will make a loan move for Sanchez again in the new year to finally bring the 28-year-old to the Etihad.

Sanchez is expected to start for Chile tonight against Paraguay in a World Cup qualifier.
