BBC Sport pundit Trevor Sinclair: Alexis Sanchez did not join Man City because of low bid

MANCHESTER CITY failed to sign Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez, because they tried to buy the player for as cheap as possible.

Arsenal fan’s HILARIOUS parody for Alexis Sanchez

Those are the thoughts of BBC Sport pundit Trevor Sinclair.

Arsenal received a £55million bid plus £5m in add-ons from City for Sanchez which was accepted, but a deal was called off.

The Gunners made a desperate attempt to land , but that was rebuffed by Monaco.

Despite Sanchez’s desire to leave the Emirates, Arsene Wenger repeatedly said his prize asset was not for sale.

And Sinclair thinks City’s tactic to bid late and go low with an offer meant they paid the price.

“I think brinkmanship and leaving it right to the last minute cost them,” Sinclair told BBC’s The Premier League Show.

“They tried to get the player for as cheap as possible.

“This may have backfired and you look at Sanchez who was desperate to leave Arsenal, as they have not matched his ambition.”

Sinclair reckons Sanchez will be very disappointed a move didn’t materialise.

He added: “It will be an uncomfortable situation not just for the supporters, but also with his team-mates in the dressing room.

“I can imagine what he will be like - he’ll be very upset.”
