THOMAS LEMAR was right to reject a deadline day move to Arsenal, according to former Gunner Stewart Robson.

Arsenal had a £92million bid accepted for Monaco winger Lemar yesterday.

However, the Frenchman decided not to sign with just hours left of the transfer window, instead preferring a move to Liverpool.

That is despite Lemar telling Arsenal he would join them earlier this summer, before the two clubs had agreed a fee.

Robson says he has made the correct decision because he would not have developed as a player at Arsenal.

“Thomas Lemar has made the right decision,” Robson said on ESPN FC.

“If you look at the history over the last few years of young players, top-quality players going to Arsenal, they’ve got worse.

“There’s no proper coaching going on, there’s no development of players.

“You look at the likes of (Jack) Wilshere, you look at the likes of (Alex) Oxlade-Chamberlain, (Mathieu) Debuchy coming in at right-back. We’ve never heard of him in the last two years.

Arsenal transfer news: Thomas Lemar would not have developed at Arsenal, says Robson

“There’s a lot of players, (Andrey) Arshavin was one of the top players in the world.

“He came to Arsenal and he went downhill. He was a shadow of himself by the time he left.

“That’s why players won’t want to go to Arsenal at the moment.

“It’s because of the management (Arsene Wenger) and the coaching at the football club, which is sub-standard.”

Lemar scored two goals for France yesterday evening in their World Cup qualifying win over Holland, just hours after turning Arsenal down.
