Barcelona transfer news: Philippe Coutinho, Mesut Ozil, Riyad Mahrez won’t sign - Moreno

BARCELONA will not make any major additions to their squad before the transfer window shuts at midnight tonight, according to pundit Alejandro Moreno.

Barcelona arrival Dembele is second most expensive player ever

Barcelona have been linked with moves for Premier League trio Philippe Coutinho, Mesut Ozil and Riyad Mahrez.

However, with the British transfer window shutting yesterday, clubs are unlikely to sell as they will not be able to replace them.

Coutinho has been a target of Barca for the last month and they have seen three bids rejected by Liverpool.

Former Venezuela international Moreno cannot see Liverpool giving up on their stance that he will not be sold with just hours remaining.

“How many bids have they put in?” Moreno said on ESPN FC this evening.

I don’t think at this point in his career that Mesut Ozil will add a whole lot of value to Barcelona

Alejandro Moreno on Arsenal star Mesut Ozil

“How many times has Liverpool said no? So what am I going to say? No.”

Arsenal star Ozil and Leicester winger Mahrez have been rumoured as potential alternatives to Coutinho for Barcelona.

Moreno reckons they would have to be desperate if they moved for either of them.

“The desperation from Barcelona comes from the fact they’ve been told no by Liverpool,” he added.

“Is Mesut Ozil staying at Arsenal? I think he still is.

Barcelona news: Philippe Coutinho has been a long-term target of Barca

“I don’t think at this point in his career that Mesut Ozil will add a whole lot of value to Barcelona

“If I feel that way about Mesut Ozil, I feel that way about Riyad Mahrez.

“The desperation of Barcelona may just change this the other way, it may just say ‘you know what, we need to get something, anybody, anything’.

“They clearly overpaid for (Ousmane) Dembele and they may be willing to overpay for one of these guys but I’m still thinking of none of both of them because they are not, in this point in their careers, Barcelona players.”

Both Coutinho and Mahrez submitted transfer requests at their respective clubs this summer, whereas Ozil is out of contract at Arsenal at the end of the season.

But all three look set to be staying put until January at least.
