Manchester United wanted to sign Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic this summer

Manchester United pushed hard to land Perisic, 28, in the summer transfer window.

Jose Mourinho was seeking a fourth recruit after already spending £140m on new arrivals.

But United refused to meet Inter’s £49m valuation of Perisic and deadline day passed by with no deal materialising.

Yet Inter are wary that United remain interested in the Croatia international.

And Italian newspaper Tuttosport claim the Serie A giants are preparing means to block United signing him next summer.

According to the report, a new contract for Perisic that has been weeks in the planning will include a €70m (£64m) release clause.

Tuttosport have branded it an ‘anti-United’ clause as it is specifically designed to block the Red Devils from doing business.

Perisic will earn £82,000 a week from the new contract - a pay rise on his current terms but way off the £104,000 a week he was supposedly demanding when United’s interest was at its peak.

As for United, Mourinho was said to be happy with his transfer dealings this summer despite failing to secure one final arrival.
