De Boer is having more talks with Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish this week after a disastrous start to the season which has seen them lose all three games without scoring a goal.

Dutchman De Boer could be sacked if Palace lose at Burnley on Sunday but the former Ajax coach, only appointed this summer, may even go earlier if talks do not go well.

Hodgson, 70, is adamant that he has one more top flight job in him and is intent on proving a point after his reign as England boss ended ignominiously with defeat against Iceland at Euro 2016.

Born in Croydon, Hodgson was a youth player with Palace but never made it into the first team.
