England vs Slovakia: Pundits refuse to criticise Marcus Rashford - Hart and Walker slammed

MARCUS RASHFORD was influential in England going behind against Slovakia tonight but pundits were quick to criticise two of his team-mates for their role in the goal.

Rashford tried to play out of defence in just the third minute of the game at Wembley, but it went horribly wrong.

Stanislav Lobotka blocked his attempted nutmeg and played a one-two with Adam Nemec, before finishing calmly past England goalkeeper Joe Hart.

Despite Rashford’s error, which immediately got him trending on Twitter, it was Hart and Kyle Walker who took the flack from Lee Dixon and Ian Wright.

Walker attempted to break forward when Rashford had the ball, so was out of position for the eventual effort from Lobotka.

“Where Walker’s going here? I have no clue,” Dixon said on ITV.

Literally, what’s going through his mind?

Lee Dixon on England's Kyle Walker

“Literally, what’s going through his mind? Marcus Rashford loses the ball but there’s three players around him, so there’s no need for him to go forward.

“Even if he’s set and he’s got the ball at feet, why would you go past him there?

“He’s a defender, Rashford ends up at right-back, not knowing where to go in the box so he’s out of position.

“He’s out of position because he had to fill in for Walker who is completely out of position because he thinks ‘we’ve got a break on here’.

“It’s a great ball and that finish was brilliant. This will show you everything about the size of the goal and Joe Hart rushing out.

“Does he do enough there? I’m not sure.”

Wright concurred with his former Arsenal team-mate and says Hart made it too easy for the Slovakian midfielder.

“I think whilst the ball is going across, he’s got to be charging out, he’s got to be looking a lot bigger than that,” he said.

“I just thought it seemed very simple the way he’s put that in.

“He didn’t give him any type of problem, he just knocked it past.”

After Eric Dier equalised from a Rashford corner, Rashford then made amends for his error by putting England ahead after half time, with the hosts running out 2-1 winners.
