Man Utd News: Real Madrid want to avoid James Rodriguez repeat with Gareth Bale

MANCHESTER UNITED did not launch a single bid for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale this summer, reports in Spain claim.

Manchester United were heavily linked with a move for Bale, with his Real Madrid future uncertain.

But Spanish outlet Don Balon says that - despite Jose Mourinho’s side being the only team interested in signing the Wales international - the Red Devils did not launch an official offer.

However, that has led to much worrying behind the scenes at the Bernabeu.

Real carried out a mass overhaul of their squad this summer, securing the arrivals of Theo Hernandez and Dani Ceballos but losing the likes of Alvaro Morata, James Rodriguez and Pepe.

And Don Balon say Madrid are wary of a repeat of the Rodriguez scenario regarding Bale.

Just three years ago, the Colombia international replaced Angel Di Maria and was expected to drive Real to silverware aplenty.

But he left on loan for Bayern Munich this summer after the rest of the European elite opted against rescuing him from his Bernabeu nightmare.

They supposedly fear the world’s biggest clubs may not go in for Bale if he struggles this season.

And, already, the 28-year-old’s form seems ominous.

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo being sidelined through suspension, manager Zinedine Zidane has been reliant on Isco and Marco Asensio instead.

Both Spaniards helped Los Blancos win the Spanish Super Cup last month.

But Asensio - rather than Bale - stole the show by scoring sublime goals in both legs.

United, meanwhile, are expected to renew their interest in Bale next summer - though Antoine Griezmann is also being considered.
