Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp should NOT include Ben Woodburn in first team - Bellamy

CRAIG BELLAMY has handed Jurgen Klopp a word of caution about fast-tracking Ben Woodburn into Liverpool’s first team.

Ben Woodburn scores great goal against Austria

Woodburn announced himself on the international stage with two outstanding cameo appearances for Wales against Austria and Moldova respectively.

He scored what proved to be the winning goal just minutes into his debut against Austria while he assisted Hal Robson-Kanu’s opener against Moldova last night.

The 17-year-old will no doubt return to Melwood this week with a new lease of life and fans have called on Jurgen Klopp to fast-track Woodburn’s development by handing him minutes with the first team.

But former Liverpool and Wales star Bellamy has urged for patience on throwing too much at Woodburn too soon.

"I don’t believe that Ben Woodburn needs to be more involved with the first team at Liverpool,” Bellamy said.

"He’s 17, he’s got plenty of time, and the club know what they are doing with him.

"I’m completely fine with their plan for Ben – he’s a kid who is learning his trade, and doing well enough.

"These next few years are the most important period in a young player’s career, and I know he’s in really good hands.

"Liverpool think a lot of him, and they’re going to keep progressing him, but not too quickly."

Woodburn is the youngest goalscorer in Liverpool’s history, after netting against Leeds in the EFL Cup last season, aged just 17 years and 45 days.
