FT: BURNLEY 1-0 CRYSTAL PALACE

Well, Burnley have consigned Crystal Palace to their fourth successive Premier League defeat thanks to Chris Wood’s early strike. I’m off to bring you LIVE coverage of Newcastle’s encounter with Swansea. You can follow there .

92: I don’t want to speak too soon, but it looks like Burnley have weathered the storm. Crystal Palace committing a few fouls to win the ball back and it’s ruining their momentum.

THREE MINUTES ADDED TIME

90: Wow, miss of the season. Absolutely unforgivable. Yohan Cabaye puts it on a plate for Scott Dann, who inexplicably guides his header wide from less than two-yards out.

89: Another update, another corner, and another Burnley clearance. Crystal Palace have now had 13 corners. Pope punches away Cabaye's long-range effort.

87: The Eagles throwing the kitchen sink here. Andros Townsend cuts inside but his curler is deflected wide.

86: Off the line! Scott Dann thumps it low from an acute angle but James Tarkowski clears the danger. Inches from Frank de Boer’s first Premier League goal.

83: Nick Pope may be a Premier League rookie but that was a top save to deny Benteke. Belgian still should have found the corner though.

82: Frank de Boer makes his second change with Jairo Riedewald replacing McArthur. Burnley also bring on Ashley Westwood for Steven Defour.

81: Huge save! The first real piece of quality from Crystal Palace is foiled by Nick Pope. Christian Benteke is through after a neat one-two with Andros Townsend, but the substitute keeper is quickly off his line to block the shot.

79: Probably one of the worst passages of play you’ll see this season. Both sides thump it five miles into the air for a few minutes before Burnley win a free-kick.

78: Christian Benteke goes in the book for ploughing into James Tarkowski. Pure frustration from the towering Belgian striker.

76: Close! Ashley Barnes cuts inside before seeing his curled effort parried away by the outstretched Wayne Hennessey. That’s Burnley’s first effort on target since the tenth minute.

73: Huge chance squandered. A corner drops nicely for Jeff Schlupp just outside the area but the former Leicester star blazes over. De Boer can’t believe he hasn’t worked the goalkeeper.

70: Crystal Place are nearing the six-hour mark without a Premier League goal. They have little over 20 minutes to remedy that. I wouldn’t hold your breath though.

69: Lowton reaches the byline but he’s overrun the ball before he could dig out the cross. Chances at a premium here folks.

66: If Crystal Palace are going to score, Andros Townsend will be involved. The winger is at the heart of everything but he’s guilty of over-complicating things. Sean Dyche makes his first change of the afternoon with Ashley Barnes replacing Sam Vokes. There’s also a Premier League debut for academy talent Levi Lumeka. He’s on for Lee.

63: Frank de Boer’s side are boasting over 60% possession here today, and have had nine shots. The only problems is that eight of those were off target.

60: The Eagles are piling on the pressure. Schlupp delivers a wicked cross that Lowton is forced to clear behind for a corner. Tarkowski does the same with that.

58: Wood breaks beyond the Crystal Palace defence, but he’s penalised for offside. He wags his finger at the linesman - but I’m afraid you’re wrong, Chris.

55: Saying that, I’m looking down this list of substitutes and I’m not sure who Frank de Boer can turn to. Sullay Kaikai is an exciting prospect but you wouldn’t call him a game-changer yet.

53: Crystal Palace continue to knock on the door with the bulk of possession, but they’re lacking quality in the final third.

49: Quite a sloppy start from Burnley. I thought Sean Dyche would see to Andros Townsend, who’s Crystal Palace’s biggest threat, but he’s in acres of space.

46: Christian Benteke has a speculative header from the better part of 15-yards fly wide. Positive start from the visitors.

45: And we’re back underway folks. No changes for either side over the break. Can Crystal Palace end five hours without a goal?

Jamie Redknapp: “What is he thinking? It's a horrendous back-pass. But what I will say, is that Crhris Wood anticipates it really well. It's a brilliant finish.”

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Jack: 45 minutes between Frank De Boer and losing his job at Crystal Palace!

Andy: Lee and Puncheon off at half-time please, but which of the fabulous players on our bench should we turn too?

Pritchard: Sean Dyche - astute signings, done wonders at Burnley but will never get a chance at a big club. People just talk about Eddie Howe.

HT: Were you aware that Chris Wood is just the second player from Oceania to score in their first Premier League start, after Brett Emerton for Blackburn in 2003. There’s your pub quiz ammunition.

HT: BURNLEY 1-0 CRYSTAL PALACE

43: Cabaye fouls Vokes and Burnley have a free-kick 15-yards in from the left touchline. Robbie Brady delivers but it comes to nothing.

40: I’m just having quick look at Nick Pope’s Wikipedia page, and his former clubs include Welling United Aldershot, York and Bury… ditch your philosophy, Frank, and go aerial!

39: And that’s the end of Tom Heaton. He’s not dead, but it looks like a shoulder injury. Fantasy Football players across the nation will be furious. Nick Pope replaces him. It’ll be interesting to see how the inexperienced 25-year-old deals with Christian Benteke.

36: Tom Heaton is down folks. The goalkeeper bravely went up for a 50/50 ball in a crowd of players and has fallen awkwardly. There’s a pause in play while he receives treatment. Brady is booked for a foul on Townsend.

34: Danger! James Tarkowski makes a hash of trying to clear and recovers by fouling Lee just outside the area. Yohan Cabaye steps up… straight into the wall.

30: Jack Cork collects the first booking of the afternoon for a late challenge. The resulting free-kick goes straight out of play. Incidentally, we were wondering how Chris Wood and Sam Vokes would operate together. It looks like Wood is playing a more advanced role with Vokes in behind.

29: Crystal Palace would be 2-0 were it not for a terrific diving header from Joel Ward to deny Robbie Brady, who was lurking just behind to tap-in Gudmundsson's deep cross.

26: Chris Wood is penalised for throwing his weight around when challenging for a corner. He’s a big lad.

24: Frank de Boer cuts a pretty forlorn figure on the sidelines, but actually, Crystal Palace have played fairly well.

They’re moving the ball quickly, finding Christian Benteke early and only a horrendous backpass from Lee has dented their hopes of picking up their first points of the season. I guess I’m saying that there’s hope.

20: Robbie Brady does well to cut inside but drags his effort wide. Burnley getting a lot of joy down the left flank. There’s clearly a plan to target Joel Ward. A corner drops to James McArthur. but the midfielder can’t adjust his feet quickly enough and Burnley clear.

16: Burnley need to settle things down here. It’s all a bit lively for their liking, and that’s giving Crystal Palace hope of getting back into this.

13: All the jokes about this NOT being worthy of a ‘Super Sunday’ are looking pretty silly now. It could easily be 2-2 here. Great start.

10: Chris Wood almost doubles his tally with a wonderfully-timed header. He can’t quite direct it goalwards and Wayne Hennessey gracefully watches it bounce wide.

8: Another chance goes begging. Christian Benteke meets a cross in classic fashion but guides it narrowly wide of the post.

5: Bosh! Crystal Palace have responded very well since going behind. A corner from the left drops to Scott Dann, and Lowton clears his scuffed effort off the line.

3: BURNLEY 1-0 CRYSTAL PALACE - WOOD

Honestly, you’ll be hard-pushed to find a worse mistake this season.

Lee Chung-yong, who’s making his first start in 2017 which smacks of desperation from the Eagles boss, attempts a back-pass from the half way line that Chris Wood intercepts and curls round an exposed Wayne Hennessey.

3: Does Christian Benteke has the stomach for a fight? We’ll find out because he’s already on the deck clutching his head. I think he’s going to survive folks.

1: We’re underway folks. The weather is absolutely atrocious with high winds and rain. Perfect conditions for a Sean Dyche masterclass.

13:25: Haha, vintage Redknapp on Sky Sports folks. Asked what he thought of Burnley midfielder Jack Cork, he replied: “Yeah I like him, he's a good footballer, and he passes the ball to his own team.”

13:20: Yep, I’ve gone and made a poll so you guys can have your say on the future of Frank de Boer.

Are you in the Wenger IN… whoops, sorry, that’s a force of habit. I’ll try that again. Are you De Boer IN or De Boer OUT camp? Let me know...

12:30: Quick reminder of those starting XI's folks...

Burnley XI: Heaton, Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Brady, Ward, Defour, Gudmundsson, Cork, Vokes, Wood.

Subs: Walters, Arfield, Westwood, Long, Bardsley, Barnes, Pope.

Crystal Palace XI: Hennessey, Ward, Dann, Fosu-Mensah, Schlupp, Lee, Puncheon, Cabaye, Townsend, McArthur, Benteke.

Subs: Speroni, Van Aarnholt, Milivojevic, Kelly, Lumeka, Kaikai, Riedewald.

13:15: Frank de Boer stood firm in the face of questions about his future on Friday, insisting he was focused on his coaching duties rather than speculation about his position.

But the very need for such queries, after just three matches in post, suggest things are not entirely well at Selhurst Park. They have yet to score in the league and a continuation of that pattern at Burnley would not go down well.

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Gerard: I feel sorry for the people who pay for Sky Sports to watch 'Super Sunday’ with Burnley v Palace and Newcastle v Swansea.

Andy: Feeling decidedly pessimistic about Palace this afternoon. We'll probably win 3-0 then…

Chris: 4-4-2 with Sam Vokes and Chris Wood up front, and great service from behind. Yep, I can smell goals here.

13:10: It’s a big day for Lee Chung-yong, who will make his 100th Premier League appearance today. He becomes only the third South Korean player to reach this landmark in the competition after Park Ji-Sung and Ki Sung-yueng.

13:00: I think I’ve been neglecting Burnley folks. So let’s focus on record signing Chris Wood, who says he wants to prove the doubters wrong.

The £15million signing from Leeds netted a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser against Spurs before the international break.

And says he’s determined to fight all the way to prove he has what it takes to succeed in the top flight.

"I've got ambitions and I'd like to prove a lot of people wrong - people will always say things, but it's for me to go out and do my best for the club,” Wood said

"I felt I could have had a role with Leicester and that maybe I wasn't given a chance, but that's football. I took a step back into the Championship but I knew one day I would be back.

"We have five great strikers here. It is going to come down to my performances and whether I stay in the team or have to fight to get into it. It is not going to be an easy road, I am not guaranteed anything and it is going to come down to hard work and making sure I play well."

12:55: Wait a minute. Didn’t Frank de Boer just say that Louis van Gaal’s biggest regret was switching from a 3-4-3 to a 4-3-3?

And now he’s done the exact same thing for today’s clash at Turf Moor…

Burnley v Crystal Palace: Express Sport brings you LIVE coverage from Turf MoorGETTY

Burnley v Crystal Palace: Express Sport brings you LIVE coverage from Turf Moor

12:50: And why is he sticking with his philosophy? Because of a conversation with former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal…

"I spoke to him before I came to Crystal Palace. 'How's the Premier League? What about assistants? Did you bring your own staff?' Those kind of questions you're going to ask,” De Boer.

"The only thing he regretted: he played 3-4-3 in pre-season, and then he lost the first game and changed it to 4-3-3. He regretted that, and that's why you have to stick to your own philosophy.

"He did the same at Barcelona when he put Rivaldo in the number 10 position; suddenly the team wasn't the team any more, and we went down in performance. Always stick to your own philosophy: that's a very important lesson."

12:45: Frank de Boer remains committed to his philosophy.

Now that sentence is never a good thing, right? We’ve heard it all before with Roberto Martinez, Louis van Gaal and Arsene Wenger.

It’s effectively a death-sentence in my book, which roughly translates to “I’m stubborn and won’t adapt to a new way of thinking.”

And despite a dreadful start to the season, De Boer says he won’t change, and has warned it could take six months before Palace become a team in his image.

12:40: Crystal Palace have made some changes, three to be precise.

Frank de Boar has brought Jeff Schlupp, Yohan Cabaye and Lee Chung-yong in to replace Luka Milivojevic, James Tomkins and Patrick van Aanholt. I’m not entirely sure of the formation, but I think it’s a 4-3-3 with Andros Townsend and Jason Puncheon on the flanks and Christian Benteke in attack.

12:35: Let’s start with Burnley, and as you can probably imagine, Sean Dyche has kept things simple with a vintage 4-4-2.

There’s one change for the Clarets with summer signing Chris Wood replacing Scott Arfield. Elsewhere the impressive James Tarkowski continues alongside Ben Mee, while Robbie Brady and Johann Berg Gudmundsson provide the width.

12:30: And here's the starting XI's folks...

Burnley XI: Heaton, Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Brady, Ward, Defour, Gudmundsson, Cork, Vokes, Wood.

Subs: Walters, Arfield, Westwood, Long, Bardsley, Barnes, Pope.

Crystal Palace XI: Hennessey, Ward, Dann, Fosu-Mensah, Schlupp, Lee, Puncheon, Cabaye, Townsend, McArthur, Benteke.

Subs: Speroni, Van Aarnholt, Milivojevic, Kelly, Lumeka, Kaikai, Riedewald.

12:28: Those starting XI’s will be filtering through any moment now. I’ll bring them your way ASAP, or as quickly as my sausage fingers can type.

12:25: How’s everyone feeling this afternoon? I’m still reeling from another awful Fantasy Football weekend.

It started terribly when I decided to make Sadio Mane my captain, and got even worse when my double Tony Pulis defence decided to part like the Red Sea against Brighton.

If you’d like to rant and rave about  any of the above, or sing your team’s praises, you can like me know on Twitter (@jamie_anderson3) or comment at the bottom of the page.

12:20: Afternoon folks, welcome to our LIVE coverage of Burnley v Crystal Palace.

Now a trip to Turf Moor isn’t exactly what you want when you’ve overseen three defeats from three, but that’s what Frank de Boer’s faced with today.

The Dutchman heads into today’s fixture fighting to retain his first job in Premier League management.

It might be a fairly innocuous Super Sunday, but there’s plenty to look forward to folks.

PREVIEW

BURNLEY TEAM NEWS

Burnley midfielder Jeff Hendrick is a major doubt for the Clarets' Premier League clash with Crystal Palace at Turf Moor.

Hendrick missed his side's 1-1 draw with Tottenham at Wembley a fortnight ago with a tight thigh and faces a late fitness test on the injury.

Jon Walters made a successful return from a knee injury with Ireland during the international break, and boss Sean Dyche has no further concerns.

CRYSTAL PALACE TEAM NEWS

Crystal Palace are without new signing Mamadou Sakho for today's visit to Burnley because the defender remains short of match fitness.

They also remain without longer-term absentees Wilfried Zaha, owing to a knee injury, and Connor Wickham, who is continuing his comeback from an anterior cruciate ligament injury to his right knee.

James Tomkins came off with a hamstring problem in last month's defeat by Swansea but is expected to be passed fit, as are Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Sullay Kaikai.
