Di Canio advice

16:13: Jurgen Klopp must quickly pick his Liverpool players up from their 5-0 defeat to Manchester City defeat or risk dropping out of the title race, claims Paulo Di Canio.

Di Canio says Klopp has a major rebuilding job on his hands to get Liverpool firing with confidence again.

“It’s a painful defeat for Liverpool”, Di Canio said on Sky Sport Italia.

“Klopp has to work on the mentality of his players, he has to rebuild their self confidence and get back on track soon.

“It’s a very bad defeat for Liverpool and that could threaten their title expectations.

“Klopp needs to take action immediately.”

Sadio Mane red card

13:21: Sadio Mane will miss Liverpool’s next three domestic games after receiving a red card against Manchester City today.

Mane was sent off for a reckless challenge on City goalkeeper Ederson.

The forward caught his opponent in the head when trying to kick the ball during a 50/50 challenge.

He will be absent for clashes against Burley and Leicester in the Premier League, as well as another game against Leicester in the League Cup.

Man City vs Liverpool preview

10:24: Jermaine Jenas says Liverpool should get the better of Manchester City in the 12.30pm kick off today.

“The best way for Liverpool to defend is getting in their faces, a pressure game and almost win the game within the first 45 minutes which is what they tend to do,” Jenas told 5Live.

“That's what they'll try against City this afternoon.

“I don't see Liverpool losing this game. If you look at the history of the fixture and the way Manchester City are going to play.

“Liverpool's biggest strength is going to be that Manchester City will play a certain way.

“And Liverpool will capitalise on that. Because City won't miss out that first section of play by going long, it's going to catch them out. It is.”

Liverpool face Manchester City this afternoon

Moreno on future

20:55: Alberto Moreno believes he has a future at Liverpool despite the summer signing of Andrew Robertson.

“To be honest, when we signed Andy Robertson it gave me more strength and made me focus even more,” Moreno told The Telegraph.

“In the summer training sessions the manager started using Milner in central midfield, so that was also encouraging.

“I knew there was an impetus to keep working and things would work out. I felt good and thought I can stay here and I can do a job here. I knew in pre-season I had a future here. Obviously I feel much happier now.”

City to beat Reds - Burley

18:10: Manchester City’s attacking prowess will be too much for Liverpool tomorrow, according to pundit Craig Burley.

Burley believes City are a better side this season and with all their star men available, will send Liverpool home with nothing.

“I think when the big names get fit for Man City and David Silva is available I believe, who’s a fantastic little player, I’m going to go for City.

“They’re only going to get better and better as the season goes on.”

Mane player of the month

17:00: Sadio Mane has been named the Premier League Player of the Month for August.

Mane hit three goals in four league outings for Liverpool last month.

The Senegal international scored against Watford, Crystal Palace and Arsenal to help Jurgen Klopp’s side cope without Philippe Coutinho.

Mane’s form has been a key reason why Liverpool sit second in the Premier League ahead of their trip to Manchester City tomorrow (12.30pm).

Burley predicts top four

15.50: Arsenal and Tottenham will be the two teams to miss out on the Premier League top four come the end of the season, according to pundit Craig Burley.

Burley says the reigning champions Chelsea will finish second and Manchester United, who have started the season with three wins and three clean sheets, down in third and Liverpool fourth.

"I’m happy with Man United in third, Liverpool squeezing in in fourth, and Man City top with Chelsea second. I mean, it probably won’t happen,” he said on ESPN FC.

“But there’s a good bet it could be something similar.”

Philippe Coutinho will join Barcelona next year

14:30: Philippe Coutinho will join Barcelona next year, according to former Red Steve McManaman.

“It’s nonsense. I know Coutinho and I know what the ins and outs [of the transfer saga] were,” says McManaman.

“To suggest he won’t play because he might be cup-tied for Barcelona is absolute garbage. That’s just the madness of the newspapers and social media. When Liverpool say he’s not going, he’s not going. He has a five-year deal and the club made him their highest-paid player in January.

“The BT Sport lads and I all said we thought Coutinho would stay. We’ve all said he’s a good lad and his head has been turned by Barcelona because of the club it is and the fact he’s Brazilian.

“I expect him to be absolutely fine. There’s a World Cup coming up and he can’t afford to down tools and not play well – but I think he’ll get his move next year.”

Liverpool too good for City - Higginbotham

12.55: Liverpool will continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League season and take all three points away from Manchester City tomorrow, according to pundit Danny Higginbotham.

Higginbotham expects plenty of goals at the Etihad but has backed the Reds to come out on top and says their record against top six is a big factor in that.

“I just feel the pace of Liverpool could really exploit Manchester City’s defence and they will have a number of opportunities,” he said on Sky Sports.

“I think both teams will score but I just think Liverpool will come out on top.

“Like I say based on what they’ve done previously against the top six. I’m going for a Liverpool win.”

Emre Can Liverpool newsGETTY

Emre Can wants a release clause in his Liverpool contract

Klopp angry with Can

12:40: Jurgen Klopp has reacted badly to Emre Can’s demand for a release clause in his new Liverpool contract, according to reports.

Express Sport understands Juventus want to sign the Germany international and plan talks in the New Year.

And Italian outlet Calciomercato claim the major stand-off between Liverpool and the player is not wages.

According to the report, Can’s biggest bugbear is the lack of a release clause in Liverpool’s contract offer.

Klopp is not impressed by the behaviour of Can and his representatives.

The manager has stayed faithful to the player through the uncertainty over his future.

It is claimed Klopp has demanded a definitive answer from Can over the contract offer within a few weeks.

Coutinho should not play - Goater

12.05: Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp would be right not to select Philippe Coutinho against Manchester City tomorrow, according to pundit and former City striker Shaun Goater.

Goater says whatever the result is tomorrow, it will be a positive for Liverpool to bring Coutinho back into the fold when he is entirely fit.

“For me it is the right thing to leave him out in a big game,” he said on talkSPORT.

“If he plays the game and they don’t get the result, it almost looks like then ‘what do you go to next?’.

“Whereas you can play the game and if it’s a positive (result) the fans can say they’ve still got Coutinho to come in.

“And if they don’t get a result they can say ‘well we’ve got Coutinho to come in’.”

Palace youngster wanted

11:16: Liverpool are reportedly interested in Crystal Palace teenage sensation Joseph Hungbo.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is renowned for integrating academy players into his first-team, with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominic Solanke getting chances so far this term.

Solanke, 19, joined the Reds in the summer after his contract at Chelsea expired at the end of last season.

And now South London Press claim Liverpool have set their sights on another youngster in Crystal Palace attacker Hungbo.

The 17-year-old can play on either flank or in behind the striker.

Coutinho and Van Dijk welcomes

10:37: Danny Murphy says team-mates of Alexis Sanchez, Virgil van Dijk and Philippe Coutinho will bring the players back into the fold despite their failed transfers this summer.

“Occasionally, some of the lads are glad to see the back of players for whatever reason,” Murphy told the BBC.

“But that is not the case with Van Dijk, or Coutinho and Sanchez for that matter.

“From the players I have spoken to who know them, they are all decent guys who train well and work hard.

“They are all very good players too, of course. That is another reason their team-mates will want them back in contention for selection.

“With Coutinho at Liverpool, for example, his team-mates will know that when he has played for the club he has always given his all and the fact that it was Barcelona who were in for him completely justified his desire to leave.

“None of them would have begrudged him one bit for going there and it was not about the money for Sanchez, either. If it was, he would have signed the new contract he was offered.

“For me he is the Gunners' best player by a mile. He seems to work harder than everyone else and he gets frustrated that not all of his team-mates have the same standards or work ethic.

“He wants to move on to win trophies and, if he was my team-mate, I would understand why he was unhappy.

“I don't think Arsenal fans should worry about Sanchez's attitude now either, because he has the kind of character where he has to give 100%.

“He cannot play any other way and, from what I know about Coutinho, he is exactly the same.”

Gomez's first-team push

09:45: Joe Gomez says he is hungry for more opportunities after breaking into the Liverpool team.

“I’m definitely hungry for more opportunities and I think that hunger is going to stay with me just because of what has happened in the past,” Gomez told Liverpoolfc.com.

“I know that it can all be taken away from you and you’ve got to be grateful for the chance to play and just to be healthy.

“I’ve definitely got the desire and the fire within me to play, and obviously having a taste of it at the start of the season, it’s only driving me more and making me want more.

“Hopefully I can keep getting opportunities and the team can keep doing well and I’ll keep progressing.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain could make his Liverpool debut against Man City

Coutinho to make Man City return

08:45: Mark Lawrenson believes Philippe Coutinho will be in Liverpool's squad to face Man City

He said: “The question for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is what he does with Philippe Coutinho after the summer transfer saga that saw the forward ask to leave amid a series of bids from Barcelona, all of which were turned down.

“Coutinho has not played for Liverpool so far this season because of a back injury but he has been in action twice for Brazil over the international break.

“I am sure Coutinho will be in the Reds' squad for Saturday, but Klopp must decide whether he starts or is on the bench.

“What helps Klopp is that Liverpool have not exactly struggled in attack without Coutinho - they have been fantastic going forward.

“Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino can both play in that number 10 role too, so they have three players who can do that job - Coutinho just happens to be the best one.”

Klopp press conference

08:20: Jurgen Klopp is scheduled to speak to the media at 1pm ahead of Liverpool's clash with Manchester City.

Plenty of topics to discuss, most notably Philippe Coutinho.

Oxlade-Chamberlain discusses transfer

08:00: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain insists he only thought about joining Liverpool after deciding to leave Arsenal.

"The first thing was the tough decision to leave Arsenal," he told Sky Sports.

“That was the only thing that was really tough for me and the deliberation but Liverpool was the only option for me in terms of where I thought I would be playing.

"The team and the feel of the whole football club in general just sat right with me.

“I think there are really exciting things to come here and especially with this manager so I felt it was right for me to push to be a part of that.

“I’m delighted that I finally got the opportunity to."
