Bent injured his hamstring in a pre-season match against Port Vale in July.

The former Tottenham man suffered the blow while taking a penalty in the 1-0 win at Vale Park.

It was originally thought he could be out until the new year but he has received news in the last few days that he could be back in two months.

“(Originally it was) January time which was a bit of a blow to myself,” Bent said on Sky Sports.

“But I saw the specialists in the week and they said sort of November time.

I’ve taken the penalty, it’s gone in the net and I’ve not been able to get back to the halfway line

“It’s happy days for me at the moment. (I did it) taking a penalty, people have had a laugh at this one about that.

“I scored the penalty in the end but it was an innocuous one really.

“I’ve taken the penalty, it’s gone in the net and I’ve not been able to get back to the halfway line and I’ve had to come straight off.

“It’s been a bit of a tricky one but as I said I’m on the road to recovery.”

Matej Vydra has taken over Derby's penalty duty since Bent’s injury but he is hoping to continue with the role when he is back fully fit.

“I hope not (it won’t stop me taking penalties in the future),” he added.

“Vydra’s on them at the moment and he’s doing really well.

“Obviously it’s about getting back in the team and if a penalty arises I will definitely put my name in the hat for it.”
