Joe Hart kept his first clean sheet in 23 games last night

The West Ham goalkeeper had not managed a shut-out since the goalless draw between Torino and Sassuolo on January 8 and had shipped 10 in West Ham’s opening three fixtures of the new season.

However, his delight at the end of Monday night’s 2-0 win over Huddersfield was obvious – although he insisted that claiming the first three points of the campaign was a far more important achievement.

“Yeah, it’s about time I got a clean sheet,” he said.

“There’s always a chance that something might happen but I thought the defenders were fantastic tonight and they protected me really well and I didn’t really have that much to do.

“But it has only been in the league. I’ve kept plenty for my country.

“I am going to keep trying to make as many saves as I can. Whether we keep a clean sheet or not, as long as we win I am not really too interested.

“I am going to try and keep that form going.

“I feel good. I am excited to be here, I am happy, and I just want to keep improving.”
