Liverpool news: Philippe Coutinho had a bad time during Barcelona saga - Alberto Moreno

ALBERTO MORENO admits Philippe Coutinho found his Barcelona transfer saga difficult to handle.

Christian Purslow: Liverpool were not close to selling Coutinho

Coutinho was linked with a move to Barcelona for the majority of the summer with the Spanish club making three bids for his signature.

Liverpool ultimately stuck to their guns after releasing a statement stating that the player was not for sale and they kept their talisman.

He is yet to feature for the Reds this season but played for Brazil during the international break in their two World Cup qualifiers, scoring against Ecuador.

Coutinho is expected to feature tonight against Sevilla after returning to training with Liverpool last week.

And Moreno believes the 25-year-old will put his summer woes behind him by returning to his best for the Anfield club.

“I missed him, he's probably my best friend at the club. I was very happy to have him back,” Moreno told the Daily Mail.

“It was tough for him,' he said. 'He had a bad time but it's over now and I know that he will give everything for Liverpool.

He added: “It would be a dream for any team to have him but he stays with us. Liverpool said no and it meant no. It's just a huge boost. We have a lot of quality here now.”

Moreno has come under heavy criticism during his time at Liverpool for the defensive aspect of his game and barely featured last season.

Jurgen Klopp has since reinstated the full-back into the first team and Moreno has acknowledged what his manager wants from him.

“In modern football full-backs have to be an attacking force too,” Moreno added.

“But I know the first job is to defend. The idea is that we defend as a team and attack as a team. That is what the manager wants.”
