David de Gea is widely regarded as the best goalkeeper in the Premier League having been named in the PFA Team of the Year for the last three seasons.

However, the Spain international has a number of challengers in Europe for the title of world’s best shot-stopper.

Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon and Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer would both be in with a shout for the crown.

And De Gea has claimed he wants to be regarded as the best and will not rest until he achieves his ambition.

“I always want to be the best,” he said.

“I train hard to improve every day, in every training [session], so I work really hard to be the best keeper in the world.

“I don’t know who is the best at the moment but this is what I want – to be the best.”

And De Gea has admitted he cannot take his foot off the gas at United where the competition with Sergio Romero and Joel Pereira for the No 1 jersey is fierce.

“All three keepers at United – Sergio, Joel and me – train really hard to be the player who is on the pitch to play in the games,” he added.

“Now I feel really strong, really confident.

“Everyone trains hard to be in the XI and that’s it.”

De Gea has been Jose Mourinho’s go-to man this season and has kept four clean sheets in six matches.
