Arsenal news: Jack Wilshere criticism is unfair, he’s one of the best - Adrian Clarke

ARSENAL midfielder Jack Wilshere is one of the best midfielders to watch when he is on top form, according to former Gunner Adrian Clarke.

Adrian Clarke: Wilshere criticism is unfair

Wilshere is set to make his first Arsenal appearance since August 2016 when the Gunners face Cologne in the Europa League tonight (8.05pm).

The England international’s horrendous injury record has stifled his Emirates career and he spent last season on-loan at Bournemouth.

A broken leg suffered against Tottenham in April meant another spell on the sidelines for Wilshere.

Now back and fully fit, Clarke is desperate for him to succeed and prove to critics they were wrong to write him off.

“I’m a Jack Wilshere fan, I always have been but we just haven’t seen enough of him,” Clarke said on talkSPORT of the Arsenal academy graduate.

“The last time he played a full 90 minutes at Emirates Stadium was September 2014.

“I think (Aaron) Ramsey and (Granit) Xhaka is a work in progress.

“I think if Jack Wilshere does shine in the Europa League and fires up a head of steam, he could earn a place back in the Arsenal first XI.

“I don’t think it’s completely dead and buried for him, I really, really hope he shines tonight.

“He’s a great player to watch Jack Wilshere, he’s got fight, he’s got character.

“When Jack Wilshere is on fire, when he is sharp, I’ll tell you what, there aren’t many better midfielders to watch than him.

“I think he’s had a lot of unfair stick.”

Wilshere could make his first Premier League appearance of the season against Chelsea on Sunday.
