Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp’s team selection against Sevilla was wrong - Frank Lampard

LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp is wrong to rotate his goalkeepers in different competitions, according to Frank Lampard.

BRUTAL collision between Janssen and Mignolet

Simon Mignolet has started five of Liverpool’s seven games this season, with Loris Karius playing the other two.

Klopp has stated that Mignolet is his No 1 but played Karius in the 4-0 win over Arsenal in the Premier League and the 2-2 Champions League draw with Sevilla last night.

Lampard disagrees with the German’s decision to alternate the stoppers.

The Chelsea legend says having the same goalkeeper in every game helps build confidence through the team as well as consistency.

You have your No 1 goalkeeper, you want to put confidence into him

Frank Lampard on Liverpool

“I don’t agree (with it),” Lampard said on BT Sport.

“I don’t think it’s an old school view, I think it’s a very common view.

“You have your No 1 goalkeeper, you want to put confidence into him.

“You want to make him feel like he’s the No 1, the team will react off him being the No 1.

“Unless he performs badly enough to become the No 2, I think that’s how it works.

“Competition is a good thing but if Jurgen Klopp is basically saying ‘I am going to keep chopping and changing’ where is the consistency for them to get their good performance?”

Mignolet is expected to return to the Liverpool side for the Premier League game against Burnley on Saturday (3pm).

The Reds lost their last league match against Manchester City 5-0 on Saturday, with Mignolet between the sticks.
