Chelsea Arsenal: BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson gives prediction and makes odd Burnley claim

CHELSEA needed to lose to Burnley ahead of their upcoming game with Arsenal, according to BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson.

Lawrenson: Man United will definitely finish in the top two

Chelsea’s Premier League campaign got off to a rocky start with the Blues losing 3-2 at home to Sean Dyche’s Burnley last month.

However, Antonio Conte’s side have bounced back to record key wins over Tottenham, Everton and Leicester City.

They will go into Sunday’s clash with Arsenal (1.30pm) aiming to return to winning ways after two recent defeats against Arsene Wenger’s team.

Arsenal beat them 2-1 to win the FA Cup back in May and followed that up with a penalty shootout victory in the Community Shield.

Chelsea Arsenal: Mark Lawrenson thinks the Blues' defeat to Burnley was a good thing

But Lawrenson thinks since Chelsea’s opening day defeat at Burnley they’ve got their mojo back - and another win is expected over the Gunners on Sunday.

“I fully expected Arsenal to beat Bournemouth last weekend, but that does not mean everything is rosy for the Gunners. Far from it,” he said

“Arsenal boss Arsenal Wenger only ever seems to be a game - or even a half - away from a full-blown crisis, and I think he will have another defeat to contend with this weekend, rather than a repeat of what happened at Wembley in the FA Cup final.

“Since their opening-day defeat by Burnley, Chelsea have won four games in a row and I think the way they lost to the Clarets will actually have helped them focus.

Chelsea Arsenal: Mark Lawrenson expects the Blues to continue to bounce back since Burnley

“Sometimes you need a game to go badly like that at the start of the season to realise you need to get back at it if you want to defend your title.”

Chelsea last lost to Arsenal at Stamford Bridge back in October 2011.

Robin van Persie struck a hat-trick for Wenger as the north London side prevailed in a 5-3 thriller.

But Chelsea go into the weekend’s clash aiming for a first win over Arsenal in three.
